AC Compressor

Post by toadster » Mon May 06, 2024 3:23 pm

Hi All :D
Can someone please confirm if the AC compressor is the same on both the 2.0i and the 2.2 ?
I went to have My air conditioning regased the other day.
When they took out the old gas and put the new gas in the compressor stopped working.
It was running beforehand but not very cold.
The compressor had gotten louder a few day's before but had got quieter again.
The guy's who did the regas say the system has a leak as less gas was removed compared to what they had put in so they have removed all the new gas from the system for safety.
I will need to get it checked for leak's by My local garage.
Any thoughts guy's?
Cheers all

Lo :D
Update.
Took car to My main garage today and they put some gas into the system and compressor now works fine.
I have no idea what the other place was doing but obviously it wasn't the correct thing
Thankfully I don't need a new compressor so plenty of Dosh saved
Cheers all ;)

That's the whole point of a re-gas though, it wouldn't need doing otherwise!

Weighing gas out isn't the way to confirm whether the system has a leak or not, though (you don't know if the previous person filled it with the correct quantity). They should vacuum the system down, seal it off and leave it sat there under vacuum for a while, seeing how much/if the vacuum leaks off.

Lo :D
Thanks for Your reply :D
The guy meant the new gas He put in was more than what He removed at the end not the original gas.
Still just glad the compressor is OK 8)
Cheers ;)

I'm sure you will know, but to keep the system in good order, be sure to use the AC regularly, even in the winter months (I leave mine on all the time).

The gas going around also carries lubricant,, which stops various seals from drying out. Once they dry out and shrink, you get a leak and the gas leaks out and the seals are generally no good then.

Glad you got it fixed on the cheap though!

AC Compressor

Post by toadster » Wed May 08, 2024 9:25 pm

Lo All :D
Just wanted to check something.
Should the AC get cold when car isn't moving or do the revs need to be up ?
Mine currently needs to be around 2k or above to start coming out cool.
Is this normal ?
How cold should it get ?
Cheers for any feedback guy's :D

If it takes revs to get cold then the compressor might be faulty.
It should feel ice cold at idle.

The AC should start blowing cold straight away. It wont 'last' though if your not moving however. If the car has been in the sun, you wont get any appreciable affect at all (as the dash has all the heatsoak being black).

Revs don't really seem to come into it as far as I can tell - just movement of air over the rad. The front rad fan should be running as soon as you put the AC on, this gives you a little bit of effect whilst stationery.

Check your lower rad area, you are probably missing half of the AC condenser fins , I know I'm losing more as the years go on, and each year it gets a little less effective.

AC Compressor

Lo :D
Went on a bit of a drive today.
On a couple of occasions the air con got a bit cold but generally it was very disappointing :(
I'm sure their must be some sort of issue :(
I'm finding it very difficult to find a replacement compressor ( if I need one) anyone had to replace theirs ?
I have a stone guard I made myself on the front of the car , could this cause any issues as far as getting enough air into the front of the car ?
Both fans come when I switch the AC on so they seem fine at least.
Cheers all for any help :D
