Re: I'm one step closer to getting a hard top

Post by h10ndr » Sun Feb 23, 2014 8:47 pm

so my daily searches of ebay for a hardtop finally paid off.
spotted a new listing which by coincidence was local to me. It was slightly damaged (a scratch on the glass) and a few others on the paint. but I was able to go view it and realised the glass scratch although bad could not be felt by finger nail, so might polish out.
after assuring the seller the fitting kit alone would fetch 400 I hoped I could buy just the hardtop...we agreed on 420 for the hardtop!!! and he would deliver it to my house!!!
after a few hours of polishing the paint MCB has come up great apart from the bigger scratches. it will need to be painted black anyway. 2 hours of metal polish and toothpaste on the glass has completely removed it!!!
then when I try move it to my attic it wont go up the second flight of stairs!!!!! bummer

One step forward, one back! Result on finding one though and rescuing the scratch. Nice kitchen ornament atm then? :D

 Yeah its made it to the first floor, but the staircase into the attic is just that bit tighter and it wont pass beyond the first few steps.

I have a plan though. I think I can cut away the box sections around the doorway and make a new access panel which I can remove as needed. But I need to make sure before I start any alterations...

I'm not very popular in the house atm, although the missus is being very understanding of my plight. Not sure how long I've got though....

I also checked out secure storage in Leeds and Bradford just in case it was cheap. (No it wasn't) a room just big enough for it is £50+ per month, and a pallet in a larger room is £30+ per month. So thats not happening...back to plan B. House alterations.

Ok. I'm on plan C now. Its gunna take too much work to make it possible to store the hard top in the attic and its 2 flights of stairs to negotiate every time. Plan C is to clear out space in the garage ( read cellar ) and store it down there. It will mean major clearing of space but this is all good.

Do you have a stand? Genuine one for sale near me for £80, dunno if that's a bargain or not? If you're interested I'll link you.
