:? Wot?

Why?
So a car that could easily have clocked up 100k by then, made of crappy cheap parts from China, doesn't get safety or emissions inspected...
Great!
Brilliant boost for road safety.

Well done.

And all for saving businesses the cost of £37 per car.

And...

Common sense on road tax still fails to prevail

Funny you mention this Wurley. By the time my van had it's 1st mot with around 80k on it I had already gone through a set of front drop links and upper coilover shock bushes. These were replaced as I check around every 12k service but easily an mot fail before my first mot was even due.

Yep, exactly that! ^^^

There are plenty of people that aren't anything like as careful as you and that's the worry.

Unbelievable considering how some new cars are so crappily made. Some people are lazy enough when it comes to maintenance and need the prod up the arse from the MOT to get things fixed.

its a complete joke they would of needed at least 4 sets of front tyres and 2 sets of rears in that time for the average business man + front brakes and then they get free road tax cuz its got a blue motion badge on it yet they use the road more than I do and I get penalised pisses me right off

Osborne's quote is "There will be no change to VED for existing cars - no one will pay more in tax than they do today for the car they already own." That is, nobody 'gets penalised'.

Buyers of new cars have to pay extra in the first year. Most of will all pay the same thereafter. Simpler, somehow?
Why can't we be happy that some people are getting something a bit cheaper?

The biggest change is that "... money raised from VED will be ring-fenced for road investment, something not seen since the 1930s." If they stick to that, it'll be a real step forward.
