Neither should be looked at any differently.
Any armed response should only be on behalf of a sovereign (or whatever the right word would be) state, not random blokes going off getting involved in something that has nothing to do with them.

countries mess with internal affairs all the time first time round when the Russians were in Afghanistan I was kind of training the peshtun tribes to fight them. they have always been great allies to the point that they will help look for "lost" westerners and protect them.
the German bikers are Kurdish so do actually have a dog in the fight

I have a great deal of respect for the Kurds. I wish they got more help with arms and ammunition.

Yep, I should add that I wasn't saying I don't support people in that country fighting for their own homeland against IS...
