Just asked my mate, who's a sparky, about it. His reply:
20 bucks for new commando plug and socket, much safer

That's 15 amps per phase, which yes is plenty (that's up to 10kW! depending on the power factor)

That's the main reason - I'd have to get any changes to the fixed installation tested, to satisfy the landlord (quite reasonably!) which means paying a sparky when there's no need.

As for being 'safer', I'm actually not a massive fan of the IEC connectors tbh - they're not very durable things. They were forever getting broken in the workshops I've worked in, whereas the older metal rayrole connectors (also in use) go on forever.
These Lewdens are quite safe and much more durable plus (as said) bugger all cost to me, because I can just plug in and go! :)

nb: I will also be running earth as well ;) (that plug is only 3p+N) by running a new separate earth wire back as well.

Anyway, all the stuff was ordered last night, except for the cable glands that I can get locally once I've sorted out exactly what I want/where.

Fair play sir! He did also say that the last time he saw those connectors was when he was using an ex army generator many years ago - so they must be fairly durable!
