What gets me is the price/collectability of a fairly ordinary Ford Capri or Escort RS2000. Very crude by today's standards and mass produced, but selling for silly money now. I suppose it's down to rarity value. When my Capri was four or five years old it was already starting to rust!

look at the cost of 70's jap cars its because they all rotted away that they are so expensive now

as a rule of thumb 2 doors are always more desirable than 4 doors coupes more desirable than saloons

Amazes me that old fords, capris etc. are worth bucket-loads, but Vauxhalls of the same era are rarer, but nonetheless, lower valued.

This is pretty much it. Just think back. I'm sure people in the 70's and 80's wondered the same thing and hey presto an old poverty spec anything is worth money.

Who even likes morris minors anyway?

Even stuff produced in insane numbers can become a classic. Look at the mini.

Collectability is all about perceived value.

I'd say that anything that's a bit different or high performance. Evos, SXs etc... as well as anything with pop up lights :D
