Is it definitely possible to remove the woodruff key with the timing gear still on the crank??? (I can't recall  )

Yes you can. All the timing bits are under the plastic cover. The crank pulley needs to come off before you can remove the cover.

Yeah, I remember that. But I recall the woodruff key also being what locates the crank timing pulley and there being a taper on the slot in the crank.
I couldn't remember if it was oriented with the taper at the outer end (so that it retained the key on the crank until the cam gear had been slid off) or the inner end ( so you can slide out the key with the cam gear still on the crank)?

The crank snout pokes out so you can get access.

I will find out soon enough lol - just waiting on the crank pulley to come through before I find out just how much damage has been done. If the woodruff is twisted, im hoping the crank hasn't been damaged.

Had my mates 5g 2.0 lude for the weekend and loved just being in a lude again

I think your crank will be fine. I don't think I have heard of one ever being damaged.

@wurlycorner - Could you translate that in English please. lol
@merlin - is there any to tell if the crank is goosed? The car seemed to drive fine and I didn't feel any vibrations associated with a shafted crank. Didn't lose any power steering either. The car just drove like it had a loose belt.

You will see it all when you take the crank pulley off.
