Yep, I was so fortunate when I went to put the 924 back on the road earlier this year, living where I do...
It's a Cat C, so needed a VIC before I could register it to me etc.
VOSA test centre is 5 mins drive from my house -> that way
DVLA office is 2 mins drive from my house ^ that way

Drove the car to garage for MOT (passed) drove home. Booked the car into Vosa, drove it there, checked in 15 mins, certificate in my hand, drove it home, drove to the DVLA office in the lude, filled in form, handed everything over, temporary V5 issued. Also asked what info they had recorded on the system about it being recorded Cat C and they told me what they had.
Off down to the post office to tax it, job done all in a day!

That'll be a long gone thing of the past and it'll be a massively drawn out process

(incidentally, before doing all that I'd rung the main DVLA to try and find out what needed doing. Queued for 15 minutes, then the woman couldn't tell me where I needed to go or what I needed to do and said she couldn't tell me what info they hold on the system about the car because of data protection ffs

Trust be its not coming if that's how long you've been waiting, the DVLA are useless (I worked in the motor trade for years, so dealt with them a lot) so they may of not sent it, or its been lost in the post.

As Gayno said, print off that form in the link he posted and go to the DVLA office.

Just come back from dvla with a bad news...

I have phoned them this morning and asked what I need to take, but when I got there woman told me that, the v5c2 slip I have, when I bought it is too old, apparently someone else been registered as an owner

. WTF I have bought it on January 5th... And they cant give me any info when that 'kebab' got my papers... Fuming at home and about to write a serious letter to DVLA
My new papers will arive in the next 4-6 week.... Have to get plain tickets now...

On the bright side...

You can get your own back by running up jobby-loads of speeding tickets and get the other person loads of points/banned!!!

Seriously though, that is crap about someone else having registered themselves as the registered keeper nb: there is a difference between the person on the V5 and the 'owner'. The V5 is the person that has registered themselves as the keeper of the vehicle, the owner is the person that can show a receipt to confirm they bought the car.

What did they tell you needed to happen now?
I'm thinking if you make a claim to be the registered keeper now, what they'll do is write to the current registered keeper to ask them if they still are the keeper of the vehicle or not. Then if that person writes back saying no, they'll issue the V5 to you. If that person writes back saying yes they are, this could get a lot more difficult and you might end up having to prove you bought the car and have a VIC to confirm that the car you have, is the one you're asking them to register to you???

Well I have filled v62 form and have to wait 4-6 weeks until my v5 comes... So its all done now and just have to wait and see whats going to happen. Just wondering now if police stop me and say you not the owner... Can they take it from me?
And the 'kebab' that registered on his name happened this year (I bought it on 5th Jan) so its either mistake from a guy that I bought or somewhere in the DVLA system... I recon its just wrong speling of my name, but they wont tell you...

Hmmm... Police can't take it from you on account of you not being the registered keeper, because the registered keeper isn't necessarily the owner.
The only thing was if they got suspicious that you'd stolen it and couldn't confirm that you had permission to drive it (which they'd do by contacting the registered keeper or need you to provide evidence that you were the owner).

Have you got a receipt from when you bought it? If so just keep that with you and all would be well I expect.
