I run 2 cars plus the missus.
Talk to broker and on the basis of having a decent amount of ncb on your first car, they might indeed give you some level of introductory discount on the second policy, as suggested. That's a standard practice in the industry, but only some brokers/insurers do it (if that makes sense).

As for rough price, 50p? :?

No but seriously, how long is a piece of string?! it's all driven by; Dob, postcode, car you're insuring, ncb, previous claims/license history of all drivers, mileage, type of cover required, security, where the car is stored, value and then what the computer says based on that...
Not only do we not know all of those things, we don't even know one! :D
Only way to get a price is to get a quote I'm afraid.

Ps TypeS isn't rare at all these days, every man and his dog have one :hurr: And in black, too! :poke:

My little ek3 shitbox i have recently bought as a run around/daily is saving £108 in petrol on the ATR based on 600 miles per month. £200 for a year's insurance, £75 for 6 months tax.

Just hope it is all ok come the mot.

I have another car as my daily. I took out a new policy with no NCBs so I could keep them to use on the lude, and it still only cost me £300 fully comp...

It's only a 1.0 Toyota Aygo but it gets me from a to b, does shitloads to the gallon, costs nowt to tax, and being a brand new car it obviously doesn't need an MOT for 3 years.

The only thing is the car cost me £10k to buy; well £1500 deposit, £130 per month & £4000 to pay after 3 years (or give it back/part ex for a new car). For me though the £130 plus insurance is easily covered by my mileage claims at work each month, and the amount I'm saving in petrol.

The bonus was when I insured my bb4 on a classic car policy and didn't have to use my no claims, so I transferred them to the aygo and got the premium down even more!

Now I'm not advocating you go out and buy a Toyota Aygo, but you shouldn't rule out getting a similar little car that's nippy and cheap to run and insure.

I have two cars

The Prelude and Seat Arosa 1.7 SDI diesel plus the wife has a ford puma

Having a second car is a godsend as it does all the dirty work and takes all the abuse that a daily commute will throw at it and your not worried about dents, scratches when you go shopping at sainsburys or the local town car park. The prelude stays in good condition and only used occasionally. The arosa is a good little car and i do care for it as i rely on it for work but i dont mind if someone bumps into it or scratches it as its a cheap car and it does the job. Its only insurance group 1 and returns 70mpg. easy to repair as its not very complicated and parts are relatively cheap for it as its share alot with the lupo. If the car does die a death for any reason its no big loss as its done the job for me.

Highly reccomend it to anyone to have two cars if they can afford and can be bothered to maintain them

Its only £180 fullly comp to insure it - we have a multi car policy with admiral. also included is the wifes puma so all three cars are £1000 fully comp which isnt bad.

Having two cars is also a good backup. The arosa battery completely failed on me one day so i was still able to go to work in prelude.

Lots of factors will affect the cost of ownership of a second car like the type of car, location, your age and whether you do your own servicing as that can save so much money. I service and fix where i can all three of our cars which saves us heaps. As mentioned prices will vary. Definately worth looking into.

Good luck though

As someone who currently has 4 vehicles (3 of which are insured, taxed and used), all I will say is that it will vary depending on what the 2nd car is.

My Mustang is cheaper to insure by about £20 a month with 0 ncb on it than the Honda is with 2 years ncb on it (remember that it's left hand drive, got a 3.3L engine opposed to the Honda's 2.0L engine, and that it's a Mustang!) but because of it's age (1980) it's cheaper than the Honda, although that's a classic as well (1988)

The trike, the daily, saves me about £300 a month in fuel and parking, which of course gets spent on one of the motors for repairs

imho you dont earn enough to support the running and maintenance of two vehicles mate. its not just two sets of tax, mot, insurance EVERY YEAR its also needing to cover buying 8 tires rather than 4 etc etc etc. You will very quickly find you are drowning in costs for no real gain. take the lude off the road.
6th gen Prelude please Mr Honda. RWD 2.4 turbo lude.
