A little update to this story. After many months of chasing the rubbish solicitor I was given through my legal cover, progress has finally occurred. I was initially offered a 50/50 deal from the woman's insurance which I promptly rejected. They didn't settle so I asked for court proceedings to be filed. This took ages due to a very slow man at the solicitors who is apparently not contactable unless he writes a letter which no doubt gets charged at £200 or something stupid.
The upshot is that her insurance failed to file a defence to my court proceedings (filed at Northampton court bizarrely as I live in leicester, the accident happened in leicester and she lives in Birmingham - still at least it's neutral!). So my solicitor has obtained a judgement in default for me which I understand to mean that they will have to pay and take full liability.
Now it's just a case of chasing the solicitor to get the money out of them. I've already taken a hit on my new insurance because the claim is outstanding as far as they are concerned. Hopefully this'll all be done and dusted before it's first anniversary
