Insuring a second car
I run three cars, and its not particularly cheap for me. I think its mainly because of the choice of cars. I have 7 or 8 years no claims on the crx, 2 on the Legend, and 1 on the Lude. It actually worked out cheaper for me to get separate policy's than matching bonuses.

Can be funny like that, if the more expensive insurers will match bonuses but the cheaper ones won't, but the more expensive ones are so expensive, even once the bonus is taken into account it doesn't bring them down enough.
I have about 15 years (not that anything above 6 counts for much) on one car and about 8 on my second, I think... *quickly touches wood*

I love my motor trade policy me and my mate are both covered to drive both of my ludes and his scenic for £255 a month. That also includes his mrs on the policy to just drive his scenic ill also add my mrs to it soon now she is 25.
And it covers us to drive customers cars bloody bargain.

My motortrade policy wont cover imported vehicles and heavily modded cars.W1ggz wrote:I love my motor trade policy me and my mate are both covered to drive both of my ludes and his scenic for £255 a month. So motortrade is £1300 per year and the lude is £870 per year.

I was thinking about this for when I change my job and have a daily commute. I've already almost gone through a pair of rear tires in 10 months on the s2k. First of all I need to see how economical it is when I put my new ECU in next week and go from there. At the moment it costs me £20 to do the 80 mile round trip to work, all barring perhaps 3 miles duel carriageway.

The only time I've run two cars, was the lude and the mustang, and the mustang was cheaper?!
Insurance £200 a year unlimited mileage classic policy, no tax, petrol as and when.
To be fair, the lude was the 'daily driver' and was costing £600 insurance at the time.
Nitin, unless you really are doing silly short journeys with it, I'd say just use it and enjoy - it's a car after all.
Used to drive me nuts when stang owners would trailer them to a show, start it up, coo over it, stop it, back on the trailer and home. It's a CAR FFS, drive it. There are plenty in museums already....
Even if you buy an absolute beater diesel, it still has to be taxed, mot'd insured etc. You're probably not going to 'save' much, especially if you're doing small journeys (i.e. you're not saving on fuel costs)
Unless of course it gets hit by someone and you're just glad you're not in the S
