I am not having a go Sailor I really like horses problem is unlike a car you need no licence to ride a horse on the road and normally they are just kids riding or even worse pikeys. I know there are more collisions with badgers deer or sheep or whatever but you drive away from them and leave them dead on the side of the road a horse will have a squishy human on it who you cant just lean out your window and shout serves you right to, if something does happen no matter what actually happened a motorist will always be seen as at fault for dareing to drive on a road he has supposedly trained to and paid to drive on.

I don't like Horses, but don't have a problem with them on the roads
Strangely the only time they annoy me on the road is when they're in horse boxes. That's when the damn things really slow you down...
When they're walking, at least you get to overtake them ("pass slow and wide", of course...) but when they're in a horse box, you're completely drokked (and can't even see round them either).

I have no issue with horses on the road persay, They just need to get along at a realistic pace imho. Even bloody pushbikes are going fast enough to get a handle on them. Why are they always bloody meandering along? Its a road, get up to speed god damn it!
Clippety clop now, chop chop.
If some old boy was dragging a 2.5 foot hand cart on the main road at 2mph he would rightl;y get beeped at and told to get a move on. Why so forgiving for lazy bints on ponies?

I used to ride regularly, and my family all keep horses. I won't ride on the road when I hack out, solely because it puts myself and others in potential danger. As said the closing speeds are too fast and horses are unpredictable, all you need is a carrier bag to flutter accross the floor and they'll try to kill you and everyone in the vicinity with their flight instinct
plus, why ride on a road when there's plenty of lovely drokking countryside to enjoy?! I loved hacking accross the downs. Stubble bashing after harvest is much more fun than plodding down a shitty tarmac strip.
On a side note I apply the same logic to bike riding - I love cycling but I keep it off road where possible. I'll ride in the 30 areas around town, but only to get to the edge of town so I can ride safely over the downs. Cycling on main roads is drokking madness in my opinion. I got in a difficult situation yesterday on the C7 where I had to pass 2 cyclists in a row but then had to squeeze in between them as a car came round a corner. Sounds like I was overtaking in an unsuitable spot, but the road is 6 miles long and has no long straights. So my choices were do 6 miles at bike pace or actually get where I was going on time at the risk of killing us all
if you drove your car along main roads at 11mph you'd get a rollicking from the police if they saw you, but get yourself a more vulnerable form of transport and suddenly it's fine?!
Just my 2 pence
