Any marque of car will have its followers and haters, and every car will have good and bad examples. I agree the era of cars they were referring to were dull and generally for the person who had no taste in cars.
that said, my wife has a 2006 207 (1.4 16v 90bhp), and as much as I hate it, its not a bad car for people who aren't car people. She has had it from new, and in 90,000 miles / 9years , its only needed a coolant sensor and just recently an alternator. Other than those 2 occasions, its never really broken down (eg never left us stranded). Only ever needed a service, brakes / tyres / exhaust. / wipers / bulbs.
It has decent equipment level (aircon, electric windows, heated mirrors, steering controls, display with light failure warnings, oil level check, outside temp, rear wiper comes on when you reverse, full deadlocking, 40/60 split rear seats, 3 rear seatbelts) and the interior is pretty large and its comfortable. Its just quite heavy, not powerful enough, and the brakes are so small they wear out every 30k miles. but front discs and pads are 60quid delivered so cant grumble.
even with my knowledge of cars, and knowing when things are wearing out, id say they car has plenty of life left in it. Can feel a little clutch judder starting to creep in but can probably eek it out to over 100k miles... I've not even had to faff with it much. Window regulator is starting to wear out, but find a car on 90k miles where that isnt happening?
Id say pugs get a bad rap, but on my single car experience, I cannot hate the car because its actually all right, and it pains me to say it. Whether it will be in as good a nick as the lude when it reaches the same age is a different question though
