Flooding

Post by Gayno » Wed Feb 12, 2014 5:55 pm

Anyone here being affected by the flooding?

Where I live is, although luckily we're up from the river so no chance of it getting our house.

As comparison, here is a pic taken 8th Feb (4 days ago)

and here it is today:

Current reports are that it's still going up for around the next 24 hours, but with more rain it could well keep going!!

I live on a hill on the Sussex downs luckily, but the estate I work on is next to a river/the sea and only marginally above water level. The storm drains have had a continuous flow of water coming up out of them for the last few days, and as a result there's a lot of standing water all over the place  really bizarre to see all the man hole covers looking like little fountains!

Oh and for the first time since it was built, the Newhaven nature and wetlands reserve actually has water in it. The greater crested newts will be happy

My bins have gone on a magical adventure whilst I was at work today, needless to say they're coming indoors now

Oh and my dog fell over whilst having a body lemonade

That's the extent of the storm damage where I am

All that soggy ice cream!

But seriously... Someone needs to lengthen the mooring lines of the narrow boat jetty in that picture - it's starting to be pulled over/under (common reason why many boats needlessly sink in floods)

I suspect the wind is about to drokk up the programme on the construction project I'm managing atm

I would not worry, contractors risk. Unless you sit on the dirty side of that fence?
