I do think 8 months seems utterly ridiculous (excessive) though?!
I mean, wut?
Going on what you see on Police Camera Crash Accident Die etc.* If someone nicked my lude and wrote it off while joy riding on public roads, they'd probably end up with a ban, points and fine. That's far more dangerous, emotionally distressing not to mention actual financial cost as well, so how the drokk does what he did, deserve 8 months in comparison?

I dunno, his girlfriend was screaming him for him to stop the car (her car). So you could probably add kidnapping (wurlycorner wrote:I do think 8 months seems utterly ridiculous (excessive) though?!

The car was a VW Polo owned by a girl, I bet it was the 1.2 (70bhp) maybe it was the 1.4 (85bhp odd), so it will have been crawling round the track. The speed difference between that car and a race car would have been huge! A much bigger speed differnce than a joy rider on the road Vs average road traffic. I know the feeling when I meet something like an MX5 or Fiesta on track, unsighted and at the wrong part of the track it could have been disastrous.
The judge also said that a hefty sentence was needed to act as a deterrent. IMO he should have got longer.

They're all in much closer proximity and not protected by a roll cage, helmet etc.
Plus oncoming traffic adds to the speed differential, not takes away from it. Both doing 40mph = 80 mph differential/impact speed.
I know where I'd rather be if a 1.4 Polo was going to hit me!

Racing cars break down and drivers have to expect a slow car just round the next blind bend. Surely this means that what the idiot has done is less dangerous than joyriders street racing. The inequality of sentencing is striking.
On another point, it seems the track marshals were quick to react with their red flags. What a pity the officials in the pit lane weren't as alert. What happened to them afterwards?
