One for jjmartin. Great boost/EGT gauge. Multi buy?

Post by lewd lude lover » Wed Mar 11, 2015 9:06 am

So I have been searching for gauges for my new truck. They are bulletproof but if they get hot they die is the rule of thumb I am developing.

As such I intend to mount a number of gauges in the cab to keep an eye on critical engine/trans readouts. What with the pitiful lack of modification available (it is a diesel after all) I fancy just making the cab like KIT or something  Also towing two ton will need to be kept an eye on.

Long story short I finally found these.

Image

The AUBER range of meters.

They couple to pretty much any type of sensor, have built in alarms and buzzers, can relay start an aux fan or some other safety device..

They also do a dual readout unit.

Dual readout

It fits inside the area of one 52mm gauge and has more than twice the usability what with the user set warning etc.

Price is great and reviews from the internetz seem pretty damn positive.

Being square you can also fit them really easy into din slots. I am looking at having three of the duel's, all fitting inside the space on one DIN  Oil pressure, oil temp, EGT, Boost, Water temp, trans temp all alarmed all inside a single din. Ok so the wiring will be a nightmare  but this is a real headturner for me. Especially given the price.

JJ maybe you would like to save postage and come in with my purchase? Wont be for a few weeks yet but its on the cards and pretty definate. I think my mate shane is going to have one or two for his truck as well so maybe get a 5unit+ discount or something. I'm just confirming they service the uk but they have paypalpayment and it all seems good on the shipping details so I imagine it'll all be fine. I just like to touch base with someone at the other end when doing international purchases.

If anyone has a different product that does the same thing I would very much like to know about it for research purposes. Otherwise this looks pretty useful.

Great for the trackludes out there as well.

What do you think?

We used to swear by GEFRAN's when I was in process engineering.
Pricey though

There are loads of options out there LLL, at all sorts of price ranges.
The key thing is that they read the type of thermocouples you'll be using. I'm a bit rusty on all that now, but there are different types (B, K, L etc.)

Ahh you say that but for this kind of application, ie automotive, there really are not too many realistic options open if you discount the ebay trash and the professional gefrans. I appreciate the link. I can imagine hundreds of them in rows in a control room :D like you say though a bit price heavy..

These guys have the sensors to go with these items and they apparently plug and play with a multitude of different sensors:

Temperature Sensor, K, E, S, R, J, T, B, WRe3-WRe25, Pt100, Cu50
Pressure transducer, 0-375ohm, 0-5V, 0-75mV
Other transducer: 0-30 mV, 1-5V, 0-10V, 0-10mA, 0-20mA, 4-20mA

I'll be happy to buy whats needed from them though so you get full service comeback and no wriggling on the warrenty. Also the prices are acceptable.

Got a reply from them and they are all good with overseas postage. There are UK suppliers but again its easier to sort any issue direct in the future. I might invest in a smoker gauge at the same time... I found a new meat man who will do me a whole side of belly and ribs for a tenner. I fancy some summer cookouts.

Wrong link pasted - I meant to paste the one without a filter for gefran... There are literally hundreds of options on there...

@lewd lude lover that gauge looks great matey, the square design definitely would solve my problem of 'how do I make round gauges look right in an angular 90's dash' - the only problem is that I don't have a map sensor in my truck  The fueling under boost is adjusted by a diaphragm in the fuel pump, which is exposed to boost pressure via a hose from the manifold. Maybe I could retrofit a MAP sensor to one of my EGR blanking plates, but it'd probably be easier to just fit a nipple and run hose from it to a gauge which takes a direct input?

  exactly what I thought! It has a whole back to the future retro look to it. Especially with the red/green

one of these for the non MAP sensor engines?
If you look at the description it says to attach to the syl 1813 but the 1813 has the same boost description as the dual so I think its a miss print. I will check this though. I would have thought it would accept signal from both types of boost meter but I'll check.

That sensor looks like it would do the job, I was thinking maybe of getting one off a later truck as a retrofit but a universal jobby (that's not a swear jobby by the way  ) is probably the way. Especially as then the specs are known so should make setting the gauge up easier.

When you're looking to place an order give me a shout, hopefully I'll be ready to get one 8-)

MOT next month though :?

Sound mate, will do.

My mate shane wants a couple as well.

I think two and the air lift bag suspension psi gauge will look pretty trick under the stereo 8-)
