That 1g I went to buy (but didn't)

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

That 1g I went to buy (but didn't)

Post by wurlycorner » Wed Apr 29, 2015 5:26 pm

I said I'd post these pics up, but haven't got round to it.

Anyway, this is the 1g I went up to Sheffield to buy ages ago, but came away empty handed because it was definitely too far gone, no matter how much I tried to convince myself otherwise :cry:

It was all complete, manual and turned over really freely when we jumped it, but we couldn't get it to fire.

Interior was complete and in good nick (though carpets grubby)
Image
Absolutely loved the interior tbh and was amazed at some of the kit it had on it - service lights, electric aerial and sunroof etc.
Image
Extendable filler nozzle for the rear screen washer bottle 8-)
Image
It also came with a boot full of some bits;
Image
Things like the sills being a bit rotten didn't really bother me (they're areas that are relatively simple to make up on a car this age and I'm pretty sure you could use bits from Acclaim sills tbh).

Likewise I wasn't bothered about the front being bent, that can always be sorted (the chassis legs were still straight as was the slam panel)
Image

The reasons it was too far gone for me, was the rust that was also in all the difficult places on the shell...
'A' pillar
Image
Around the sunroof and along the shut lines of the drivers door;
Image
Around the filler neck on the rear wing;
Image
etc. etc. (I stopped taking pics)

Also the sunroof was cracked (where on earth would you get a replacement?)
Image

Having been in one now though, I really do want one more than ever :cry:

I honestly think if I wasnt there the worst condition car in your barn wouldn't have been cx shaped, really glad you didn't buy it tbh, it was gone, way too gone to be saved for a first time restoration imo looked like a job for a pro

Yep. It's even all in a nice colour too, instead of the usual crap beige etc. :(
