Just a note too. The 2.2 I-Dtec engine is COMPLETELY different to the I-Ctdi engine. And it’s far superior. My PM is referring to the I-Ctdi and not the I-Dtec. The only real issues we are seeing with the I-Dtec engined cars is cracked EGR pipes. Not an easy fix but cheap enough. So in my opinion, if you can afford it go with the I-Dtec engine NOT I-Ctdi. ;) :D

on the egr note. is this an engine you could block it off like you would with an older engine? or would it throw a code wobbly?

No it needs to be there and working. The I-Dtec motor is very advanced.

Advanced and diesel in the same room. Who would ever have thought?

ok, so a new shape accord if I really want to treat her (read accumulate browny points) or a slightly older passat if I want to keep a few shekles in the pocket... cheers guys, this has been invaluable to help fill in the gaps and give me a better idea of what I'm looking at.

The Accord looks nice (though not my choice of colour) much more interesting than the Passat.

Both have a reasonable amount of miles on them already though, tbh?

Passat had an unusual (but not serious) failure cause on the last MOT

A lot of miles? really? Are you not thinking early '90s cars there? anything under 100k is low miles 150k is mid milage nowadays imho. With new production techniques, modern oils etc I would expect a car to do 230k without any serious issues. with an average of between 10 and 15k a year these are right on the money. Given most of these cars will have been fleet vehicles and done mostly motorway miles its not a hard life and full dealer service history give peace of mind.

Now the current company car is a 64 plate and has done 150k already with the missis. thats high miles in my book.

Don't get me wrong, If I could find a car within budget on 80k I would but anythiung in the last ten years within budget and the selection will all be over 100k give or take.
