Classic Car Insurance

Hi Guys,

I was thinking of insuring the s2000 this year on classic car insurance with it being 22 years old and only driven around 1000 miles a year with perhaps the odd commute with it to work in nice weather.

Has anyone done the same with their lude or 2nd car?
Which classic car insurance company do you use or recommend?

How is classic insurance different form normal car insurance?

I've got a multi car insurance policy with Admiral insuring the daily Accord, but feel I can get the s2000 much cheaper with classic insurance.

I was led to believe that a car has to be 25 years old to qualify but may be wrong

Ive looked at some companies and they class 15 years or older a classic.
Some main points for a classic (or modern classic) is that it must be a second car and not exceed a certain mileage per year (i.e not more than 5000 miles)

I've just put the S2000 and our FK3 Civic on a Footman James policy (AEGIS I think). I got agreed value option (+£35) on the S and unlimited mileage on both cars. Paid (+£10) for option to buy salvage in the event of a write off. Low excesses, protected bonus etc. All this as well as me having 6pts (2 x SP30's) and it was much cheaper. Both cars covered for £630 ish total...but you had to be in the owners club (S2KUK)

All my insured ludes are on classic insurance (with Adrian Flux, fwiw, mix of always been happy with their level of cover and the premiums have also been competitive when I've reviewed).

One of the main benefits of a classic policy IMO, is agreed value.

I insured my 2002 ATR with Hegarty on a modern classic policy, agreed value, net rated, limited mileage. Modifications all agreed and accepted. Also includes full breakdown cover (not just roadside assistance). Underwritten by Hiscox so a decent insurer with strong financial ratings.

Agreed, never thought of agreed value before but actually an excellent idea now our types of cars are increasing in value nowadays.
