4th Gen Headlight help please.

Post by richwoods2979 » Mon Oct 23, 2023 10:18 pm

Good evening,

I need help please.

I've had my lude crashed into in a car park. I thought it was my sidelight that I needed but I can't seem to find any. But when I look some 4th gens seem to have a whole headlight unit and some seem to look like the headlight and side light are separate.

Are they all one unit or is the sidelight separate or am I going mad.

Cheers

Rich.

On JDM imports, it is one unit. On UK cars, its a glass headlight with separate plastic sidelight.

You can't buy new oem ones anymore and they weren't readily available after-market to the original design, unfortunately.

Either need to buy a used oem one (put up a wanted post on the forum or search ebay is your best option) or you can buy replacement after-market ones, but they aren't an exact match (they tend to include stylistic changes) so you'd need to buy a pair if going that route - and be careful to check they're for the right market (RHD, because most are for LHD!!!)

If buying used oem, be aware there are 2 designs. One with the 'black' background around the reflectors and one with the 'silver' background around the reflectors. The difference is obvious when you look at them, but just flagging so you're aware.

This is a used 'silver' near side JDM one-piece headlight;

Seems to be the only JDM headlight on ebay at the moment :?

Hang on I'm confused now...
I thought richwoods was after the one-piece JDM plastic style headlight, but maybe I've mis-read and he's after the UKDM two-piece

Wurlycorner and Vanzep thank you so much, that's a great help and I've ordered the one I need.

I want to keep her original and don't like aftermarket ones.

Do I have to remove the bumper to replace this light and head lights I'm reading different advice?

Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it.

You should be able to fit it in situ - there is a keyhole shaped cutout above the fixing point - so you can get a long screwdriver in there to take it off/ put it on. It should come out and go in at an angle - there are two prongs on the indicator that fit into two holes in the lip of the front wing. Have a look and you will see what i am on about. I think it is meant to be easier to replace than the one piece headlights where you do have to take the bumper off.

Yes you can definitely do it without taking the bumper off (I've just done it on my UKDM) but it can be a bit fiddly getting everything to line up properly so that it slips in/out and can need quite a decent yank to free it from the prongs that go into the wing.

Also take care when trying to undo the fixing screw from above - the head will most likely be corroded so make sure you use exactly the right size screwdriver and plenty of downward force to keep it engaged when trying to loosen!
