Someone bumped in to me..

Post by nitin_s1 » Mon Aug 19, 2013 5:21 pm

Ok when it first happened I was furious.. But now I've calmed down and it's not that bad. :x Still didn't want this as just last week I was thinking of getting a small daily so that no one can crash in to my S.

Was waiting at the petrol station in the que. And this old man decided to put his car in reverse and come straight at me.

He was ok, admitted his fault, said that 'he wasn't looking' and gave all his details.

Some pictures, it's not that bad but I decided to go ahead with the claim as I can't trust him. He can turn around and say it was my fault or something so can't trust no one.

Pictures shows that there is no damage but the bonnet is dented in, the bumper is dislocated and there is major scuffing.

Called up Sky and they put me through to someone and they will get my car picked up by the local body shop and have it checked out. :|

:o Gutted for you nitin and as you say  timing...

You sure you want to do it as a claim though? If you don't, you could choose the bodyshop instead of it ending up (somewhere like) the local vauxhall dealer.

Nb: not strictly true that you can't choose your own bodyshop through insurance claims, but much admin is involved if you want use anything other than their default one...

I guess you should do whatever you're most comfortable in the end though.

As for letting the bodyshop pick the car up instead of taking it to them myself? - over my dead body! (unless it wasn't driveable  )

They will call me tomorrow and tell me the Body shop place. If it's ok then I'll drop the car off my self.

Can't ratty fix it? The guy who hit you can't change his mind about admitting liability, as it was at a petrol station and there's cameras everywhere.

You CAN choose your bodyshop and Nitin you should be taking it yourself to get estimates for damage.
If someone hit me my insurance company can go to hell if they think they are letting who they want to repair it.
Only i will repair it.
I can guarantee they will say new bonnet the the front 4 panels respraying at a cost of around £1300.
Ideally a new bonnet if possible in the same colour.
Bumper is easy peasy to fix.

Yep, you can like I said, but they don't like it nowadays so they make you go through extra admin and will also then refuse to guarantee the repair

Out of interest Ratty, if yours got properly bent, would you panel beat yourself/weld in replacement panels, or get someone else you trust to do that and then finish/paint yourself? (Just wondering how in depth repairs you personally go)
