That's what I normally get from my local Honda dealer too :) (although haven't been in there yet this year, so... :scaredtoss: hopefully not lost my loyalty discount rights!

Yes in the kit there should be one of the plain wire retaining rings that fit in the groove at the end of the driveshaft - all the aftermarket drivehsaft&boot kits i have bought have had this part. Im sure i have one or two spare kicking about.

I'm collecting the aftermarket CV Boot kit this evening from EuroCarParts (would prefer Honda, but it's over way overpriced), which seems to have 2 clips in it. Will see if they fit. I've also gone and ordered a genuine Honda clip, just in case :D

I wouldn't worry about non-Honda CV joints. I have Shaftec CV joints on the race car and they were £20 each.

Thanks for all the help and advice y'all.

Got the drive shaft back in the original CV Joint (visual comparison between CV Joint I bought and the original showed some minor dimensions inconsistencies, so I am staying with the original one), and put on the new CV Boot. The circlips that came with the CV boot don;t fit nicely, so at the moment, the drive shaft is in with no circlip. OEM circlip will arrive Monday, and I'm not driving her until the circlip is fitted.

Taking her for tracking next week and then she's ready for JDM Combe (she'll be sat on the Kuruma Shakai stand)

Glad to hear progress made.

What's the difference in the dimensions of the joints, out of interest?

Not sure how to explain it, but what I did was to put the 2 CV joints side by side and compare the different 'sections' (see image below), to see if they matched, and they didn't. It also looked like the overall length of the aftermarket one was a little longer than the OEM one (I didn't actually measure). NOTE - tis image below is not the actual CV Joint I bought, just a random CV Joint image I found online :D

I moved the innards of the OEM around and it felt like they were all moving smoothly, and could not see any evidence of dirt (just a tonne of grease), so as it seemed the OEM one was fine, I decided to rather stay with that one, as I don't know enough to decide whether or not the minor dimensional differences with the aftermarket one would cause issues.

A little bit of variation in the lengths of the different sections above, probably wouldn't be a problem. If the diameters were way out (new joint being bigger) then you could have a problem...

How much out did they look? Are we talking a couple of mm, or 5+?

But, yeah if the old joint wasn't knocking before, still felt good and hadn't been contaminated, it would be fine to re-use.
Did you re-pack with any extra grease?

Dimensions weren't out very much, probably 4 or 5 mm max.

I did pop some more grease in there yeah. When I take it off again to fit the circlip, I'll pout a bit more grease in as well, just to be safe :D
