Thanks, pushki, I rarely service my car myself, I was predominantly talking about motorcycle pins, but same difference, seems like either will do, on reflection , I think copperslip would still be better for anti squeal pad shims and and contact points with caliper pistons, the pins may be better greased with silicone to prevent seizure. Chris, have you seen my pm to you of Thursday?

Yea amen to that. Copper grease will bake too, so not all that resistant to heat.

Agreed, thebus, serviced my fj12 calipers last week, and the copperslip had 'baked' on to the anti squeal shims, sliders still free, tho', but i'll use silicone from now on instead

Ironically, my smaller Honda's 650 and 750 never had the same issue, but they are much older and less powerful

This is the stuff I used when I rebuilt my calipers 5 years ago, not quite a real world test as they've not been used

, but everything still slides nicely with no seizures, even the rears.

I'm glad I read this thread now, I am about to refurb a pair of calipers and I already have copper grease - I better get some silicone stuff too then!

Can't find silicone grease locally for love nor money

I phoned my closest Honda service department and asked if I could buy some off them and they said they only ever use copper grease for caliper sliders!! The only silicone grease they have is what comes with non-genuine calipers but if I pop in he will let me have a couple of sachets for free

Interesting that your Honda dealer don't use what their own service manuals tell them to use...
That would be fun if a customer makes a warranty claim against faulty brakes they've had serviced by them and when the dealer tries to back it off against the manufacturer warranty, Honda UK tell them to stick it because they haven't serviced in accordance with their recommendations!

^^ they were almost my exact words to the guy! He just said, "Naah, we only ever use copper grease, always have..." I decided against berating him too much as he just offered me some free grease
