I thought the plugs on the older Honda alternators were all the same? The one on my 3rd gen Accord had the round 4 pin plug same as my 2nd gen Prelude, and from memory my 4th gen Accord. The replacement alternator I bought was said to fit my Accord as well as the Concerto, Prelude and some others from back in the 80's. I had to file one of the mounting points down to fit, and grind a bit off of the adjuster bracket, but my mechanic mate said that's not uncommon with aftermarket alternators :?

Hi jj, that was my initial thought when fefe advised that the replacement he had bought definitely didn't fit. There also seems to be an issue with the electrical connectors, fefe says the replacement has differing ones to his pre facelift. wurly has suggested that possibly pre and post may have different electrical connectors, myself and wayne can check tomorrow. FWIW when I last replaced mine, it had to be filed down very slightly to make it fit. In fact a mate bought an 'exact' like for like for his Seat from a scrappy, and he had the same issue with the mounting points, had to file the mounting points a jot.

Would be awesome if you could check whether pre and post are the same :)

With regards to it not fitting, the first one I got that didnt fit was probably for an 8v model or something, because the mounts were nowhere near similar.

The second one I got that didn't work however, fitted perfectly. It was only the plug that was wrong.

I noticed on the bay last night, a company selling alternators, but the only engine configuration it was suitable for was a B20A4, whatever that is. Will check Waynes alternator fixings tomorrow, will also see if it has any part codes. Do you have the part codes for the two wrong ones to hand so that I can compare them, the part code I noticed last night was ADH 21141, which I'm assuming is incorrect for yours.

It would be a case of you sending me the unit and me testing it. Cost would be what ever parts are req plus an hour labour. :)

Top one is post facelift 3g, bottom one is 4g (with the back casings swapped over, but ignore that - the point is that the connectors are the same)

Just spent an hour with Wayne 2014, took the opportunity to compare alternators. Visibly no difference in body size/ connectors or top mounting. Pulley dia. is the same, as are electrical connectors. Suggest you send it to thebus for repair, as it seems a nightmare trying to source a new one. You may be lucky, and just needs new diodes or windings.

Thanks very much for everyone's help!

The alternator is now at Curd Bros in Tunbridge Wells, getting repaired.

I think they said the stator, rectifier and regulator, as well as a couple of bearings are all pretty screwed, so it's £100+VAT :S

If anyone cares, this is the first alternator I bought that didnt fit:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251724684058? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Then this is the one that did fit but had the wrong plug:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251690158238? ... EBIDX%3AIT

So if anyone needs a new one, they^^^ don't fit.

Thanks again guys!

EDIT: Thebus, I'd have liked to send it to you, but I need it done asap to get to work so decided to take it to a local place - sorry.
