H22a5 or a7 crank

Post by Therealjj91 » Mon Jun 29, 2015 4:05 pm

My bottom end decided to say good bye and the mechanic who might be fixing it for me says the crank has completely gone and is in need of a new one and a few other parts... Now the quote was for £2500 to fix it but I'm going travelling in September and need the money for that but I've spent a lot of money of the car to just get rid. He said I could source the parts and he could do the labour for £1000 which is a lot better. Sorry for long-winded post but I will be updating once he has emailed me a list of all the parts I need but for now I know I definitely need a crank in good working condition. If I can't get the parts I need, I will probably end up getting rid of the car which I really don't want to do :(

What engine do you have at the moment?

The crank in the H22a5 (50mm mains) is different to the H22a7 (55mm mains).

If you want a straight up replacement you need one from an H22a2 or H22a5, that way it will also have the correct thread for the crank pulley bolt. Unless anyone can think why an H22a2 crank will be different to an H22a5?

I might have the H22a2 one but it will be a day or so before I can check its condition.

Yeah I'd rather have a straight forward swap and if you do that would be amazing. Yeah that's fine im still waiting for the email with the list of parts lol how much would you want for it?

Here is an aftermarket lightweight crank pulley for £70 - says it fits an A5.
Just an option ;)

I did think of that but I'm not doing the work myself so have to pay someone to change all th bits over and I only need a bottom end, he seems to think the head and all that is still ok and the Pistons should still be ok.

its an engine out job to do the crank so you might as well get a new decent engine to stick your bits on if the crank has gone what makes you think the rest isnt on its way out?

It would be interesting to know what's made the bottom end go on this, if the rest is still ok - the bottom ends aren't known for being a problem over here? :?
