Wanted: 5th Gen 2.2VTI Tiptronic Gearbox in Working Order
Hi Guys,
I'm selling a Prelude that has a gearbox problem but I'm thinking of selling it with it being fully fixed.
If you have a good working gearbox, please ping me a price and delivery to MK42 9BJ (Bedford).
Thanks

I'm not sure if the gearbox has gone on this 5th Gen. The previous owner has over filled it with fluid so it leaks from the dipstick but on a drive it seems absolutely fine. Changes gears fine and its general a smooth drive.
The previous owner said it would go into to neutral after 20 minutes drive, I haven't seen this happen on any drive. Only thing I've heard is a whining sound coming from it.
I'm thinking to flush all the fluid out and replace it with Honda's ATF and the right amount and take it from there?
I'm reading online that it could be just a sensor on the gearbox. What do you think?

more than likely the solenoids that allow the changes are just like the vtec solenoids so coul be blocked or if he has overfilled it they could be forced to change when pressure builds.
Drain check the condition of the fluid should be cherry red and have a sweet smell if it smells burnt he has probably run it low and burnt the clutches
then overfilled to try to sort it.
will take 2-3 flushes to completely change the fluid as a lot of the fluid is held in the converter

OK mate. The reason why he filled the gearbox is because he thought it was going into neutral after 20 minutes. What do I flush it with? The Honda ATF is £36 for 3 bottles. Cant do that 2-3 timesmercutio wrote:more than likely the solenoids that allow the changes are just like the vtec solenoids so coul be blocked or if he has overfilled it they could be forced to change when pressure builds.

I have a gear box which is in top condition. I work on the auto to manual conversion. The gear box will be available for sale very soon. The car is 5th gen with F20A4 which means 6500 RPM red line for engine and gear box ... and this is good if you know what I mean.
The only problem is that I am from Bulgaria and I have to ship the gear box from here but I think the shipping cost will not be much higher. The car ( gear box ) has 125 000 km on the counter. Here is a fresh video before removal:
