Wanted - 4th gen ignition switch

Post by jjmartin349571 » Tue Mar 08, 2016 4:22 pm

Hi folks,

I'm not 100% sure if the ignition barrel and ignition switch can be separated on a 4th gen like it can be on a 5th gen, however assuming they can be has anyone got a switch they could send my way? Mine is no good :( Cheers!

The ignition switch on the 4th gen can be changed separately I've done it on my bb1 before, pretty easy to do unless u have a alarm immobiliser installed which I did but all I did was cut the knackered switch off that had all the immobiliser etc wired in and done the same with the new one I had and just reconnected the switch wires to the ignition switch harness so I didn't have to cut and reconnect all the immobiliser wires etc pretty straight forward if u can do it the way I did u can see where I reconnected new switch to the old harness in the picture below

Just to note here something that's occurred to me...
I think there is a difference between manual and auto (auto has a key lock solenoid???) so check that to be sure. Possibly even so, this part can be swapped from one to the other, but again, suggest you check to make sure.

I had a little look in the service manual last night and there wasn't any mention of potential differences - It looks like a case of disconnecting two multi-pin plug, then removing two screws from the cover on the end of the barely and removing the ignition switch along with its small length of loom. I'm hoping it shouldn't be too troublesome.
