5th Gen Red Top Fuel Lines

Post by PreludePete » Fri Jun 08, 2018 7:39 am

Have an MOT advisory of rusted fuel pipes on mr Motegi 5th Gen Red Top.

I believe there are two lines involved (?)

The Honda garage say the pipes are rusted to the joints and inserting new lines is not on.

They are checking out some stuff that you paint on to stop the rot, but I guess you still have the problem.

Replacement lines come in at £600!

Does any one have a decent set of lines or know where I can source them.

Advice / help welcome!

Pete

Hi Pete,
Its not uncommon for the fuel lines and fuel filler neck to be rusty as hell
They tend to rust near the tank at the back on the passenger side - this is hidden by a plastic cover
Im guessing but its probably the fuel supply line and the breather hose on the filler neck or the fuel return line that have rusted
Most folk have the small section of rusty/leaking pipe cut out and replaced with a bit of rubber hose and a couple of clamps
If you fix it and replace the plastic cover then they should not remove that for the Mot

As Vanzep says, a very common problem. Both my Ludes suffered from this.

Chop out the rusty pipe and replace with regular fuel hose. Its a cheap and easy solution.

Thanks guys, the garage technician says this cure is difficult because the corrosion is right up to the tank connection which means they wouldn't have anything to attach the replacement fuel line to.

I need to go and have a look and /or get some pictures taken.

Help and advice much appreciated.

Have some pics of the rusty fuel lines but close up and doesn't give much idea of shape/size.

Have attached diagram below but await confirmation of the right part numbers to identify more clearly!

Could have just said "it's number 'X' and 'y' on here" and people would know.

The link below shows the proper Honda part numbers

Sorry Wurly, didn't make myself clear.

I need the local Honda garage to tell me the part numbers of the bits I need and then I can identify on the drawing.
