WTD: 4WS ECU

Post by Gayno » Sun Sep 29, 2013 10:25 pm

Has anyone got a 4WS ECU going spare??

Mine keeps popping the light on and the only way to get it working is to disconnect the battery for a few seconds. Then all is well for a variable length of time! (Could be the next time I start it, or could be a month, until it goes wrong again)

I've had the ECU out twice in the past to check and resolder dry joints but it's not helped, and in the last year it's getting worse (happening more often) and getting very irritating.

Does anyone have a known working ECU available?? Not sure what these go for, so send me your offers!

Might be worth replacing all the electrolytic caps in the ECU - they're one of the few components that can degrade with age and without showing any visible signs of being knackered.

Maybe, but to do that would require taking the ECU out, so if anyone has a spare one I may as well get that and just stick it in!

Haha yep, I know what you mean... Lisa's has packed in for the second time with me, so that's where I am with too (mind you, that one has already had a professional repair of some sort done on it before we got it, so it's now done its third life!)

Mine decided to fail today when we were leaving Silverstone. Normally I carry a 10mm spanner so I can disconnect the battery in such cases, but I tidied out the car last weekend and didn't put it back in

Luckily though the positive terminal was loose enough that I could work it off then back on which did the trick. Otherwise that would've been an interesting 2 hour drive home :(

I think I've got 1 or two knocking around. Not sure on how well they work though

I just want one to throw in and see if the problem resolves. Let me know if you find one and I'll pop up one evening :)
