indigo, I'm curious - how does bot access work? Do they automatically register? Or does a person do it at the outset, like with any other user? Do you have to approve the registration?

Our forum software, phpbb, has a 'bots' access level that search engines can hit. It's read only, and allows them to index the site - it's likely why we pop up at the top in google searches all the time
