Re: Benthebratt's 5th Gen -** smoke, please watch video**

Post by benthebratt » Tue May 24, 2016 9:15 pm

Hi everyone, not been on for a while due to exam period for Uni. Just uploading a video and need someone to tell me about the smoke coming out the back of the lude. Done 140k crap service history , my dad owned the car and didn't really look after the car engine wise. Since I've had it has had regular services and has performed well on the dyno. Ive got a japspeed 4-2-1 manifold with sports decat and then a powerflow silencer and backbox. can someone tell me what this smoke is out the back, most of it looks black so guessing over fuelling but a little puff at the end looks grey ? does sometimes smoke in vtec , but never did when I had the catalytic converter on? please let me know what you think?

Cheers

Was the engine warm or cold when you did that?
Does it use much oil?

somewhere from the head, cant really pinpoint. Its the grey smoke at the end that worries me, as the black looks like overfuelling due to the new exhaust setup etc. Would you lot be worried ? I don't drive the car hard just vtec sometimes.

I wouldn't be too worried personally bud. It's when it starts spewing smoke out like a chimney when something is wrong.

That's a relief lol. But what is that grey smoke at the end when my mate let's off the accelerator.

What are your spark plugs like? To me that looks like incomplete combustion (poor spark?) rather than over fueling. My 4th gen overfuels like a MOFO and it is not black like that. What does the car feel like? Is it sluggish or down in power at all in any part of the rev range?

If I were you I'd look at your ignition system, plugs, leads dizzy cap & rotor and ignition timing.

Car pulls like a train bout 2 months ago 209bhp on dyno. Will check spark plugs had service about 5 months ago with the proper sparks. But the cwmbelt hasn't been done for a long long time
