This thing has not been neglected but has been the source of much annoyance..

So all this smoke malarkey turned out to be ring issues, I had incorrectly installed them and had not cleaned the pistons thoroughly enough, both of which o have no excuses for other than just not paying attention to what I was doing and rushing the engine rebuild at the most crucial point.

This combined with work has tested my enthusiasm for cars in general and even being a mechanic altogether so progress has been slow but there's has been some...

So I'm at a point now where I have got the pistons back out and cleaned them in a bath of industrial oven cleaner, new rings have arrived so I just need to re hone the bores and take my time re installing everything

Hopefully it will be spot on this time and can enjoy the car finally

Don't give up on it mate, just over looked and eager to get it on the road it's a lesson learned and move on,enjoyment can't too far away, hard work is done just take your time, hope it works out,i've been car hassle free for 4 weeks now the starter went in SIlver's just as i had some interest in it so Whitey coughed up hers and got one shipped from Melbourne,Silver sold Whitey got her new piece all good.
Never swapped a starter and it was probably the easiest thing i've ever done on them but going in to it blindly at the beginning i expected anything and usually end up well frustrated, your a bit more involved here in fairness but in a little time it will be hopefully all past tense for you.

Cheers guys

Drax I have a few I think but I will have to see if Photobucket wants to work first

Greg-SiR ahh no way bud bet that was a pain, similar to what happened to me when Drax came to look at black beauty the other month except that was the alternator
Ha yeah they are in a good spot on a prelude, most cars are a pita compared to them though..

Just catching up on this thread.
Bummer about the massive oil consumption, but yep it really does matter if you don't rebuild these things according to the specs. Well done for back tracking, finding the problem and sticking with it to fix it all 8-)

Engine bay looks gorgeous. Really interested to see how those anodised washers stand up on the exhaust manifold.

Photobucket still works fine, just after posting the img link in here, go in and add "~original" after where the img link ends with, ".jpg". So you end up with "<somegubbins>.jpg~original"

Then when I turned it over by hand this

Image

You probably can't see but basically I had the top compression ring and the middle stepped ring the wrong way around :x   :troll: :suicide:

Image

That and the fact that the pistons where carboned up to hell due to poor maintenance in the past and probably being run on the crappy E10 fuel you get over here..

So I let them sit in some industrial oven cleaner and they came up a lot better.

Image

Image

I've also got a couple of little jobs underway which need doing..
Firstly the antenna was completely shot so removed that and plan on doing an s2000 conversion

Image

And the battery tray has seen it's fair share of acid in its time by looks so removed it and plan on cleaning and painting the area and doing a lightweight battery relocation in the boot at some point..

Image

And also have plans for these..

Image

And this is the poor state we are in now :(
