Morning mate - B777 KL to Dubai then an A380 (well spotted) Dubai to Manchester. Same coming back.
The mountains are, I believe somewhere above Turkey, can't be sure as I'd just woken up, saw that view and took the shot.
The A380's are much nicer than the B777's with more shoulder and leg room. The Emirates 777's are looking rather tatty and aged these days.

What amazed me about the A380 (Also to Melbourne) was looking the seat backs and realising that every damn passenger seat is carbon fibre!

Thanks matey, although the inner child in me forced me to open your package just to have a look. Well, it was Christmas wasn't it?
As I knew it wouldn't fit in the overhead, I cannibalised two Post Office cardboard boxes, bought up all remaining supplies of bubble wrap in Halifax and repacked it the simonc way!
Glad to say there was not a scratch, ding or bend in anything. The nostrils look great Nick - fitting time this weekend!

Hi Doggo, impressive interior isn't it? Even though it's so big the clever way they've 'divided' the cabin up makes it feel rather comfortable and less 'tubey'. At the risk of repeating myself, there's so much more elbow, shoulder and derrière room on the A380 which makes it such a nice plane to be in. I'm a big fan and actually work out my schedules to make sure I'm on one rather than the sardine-can 777.

The last big aircraft I was on was the same route on a 747, back in '02. The A380 was a totally different experience.

New Rotors for the beast.

Post by simonc » Sun Apr 12, 2015 8:05 am

Hi all, quite a few shots to share so I hope they don't bore you to death. Anyway, finally got around to buying the Run-Stop rotors to replace the crappy Chinese TRW fronts I bought last year and the rears which were, I think, on from new.
There's good reports about Run-Stops so at least they're genuine and not counterfeits so here's the process.
Here they are - suppose I fell for the handsome look.
Image
The rear rotors were (adopts John Cleese voice) 'waffer thin...'
Image
Okay, it was the look that sold it for me.
Image
Oooh, look at the muck in 'ere...
Image
Gratuitous shot. Looks lovely doesn't she?
Image
Shiny new fronts back to back with Chinese counterfeits that I'd been sold.
Image
Look great but pain-in-the-arse me requested that little something extra at the last minute.
Image
I wanted the 'rim' thing painted as I hate the rust that forms there. 'Paging Dr Freud...'
Image
And continuing my anally retentive attention to detail I asked them to clean inside the wheels.
Image
In for a penny eh? May as well get the calipers done.
Image
I think they look much better now.
Image
The overspray has burnt off now so they look really sexy under the wheels.
Image

Got everything aligned after the rotors were fitted and must admit the steering feels loads better. As @vanzep pointed out a while ago, it was a problem. Also, as @bennyboy mentioned, my tyres were low so now the front feels great.
The brakes are lovely and it really has made a difference.
However, two new problems that Jason found need attention.
First, this oil leak (this shot is looking up toward the engine). Nothing major but needs attention.
Image
And this hole that appeared in the exhaust (which may be causing the warning light issue).
Image

Blue Beauty is going back to Jason next week to sort out the oil leak and also get that hole welded. Other than that, I'm really chuffed with new update to my car. Hope you enjoy the photos gents. All the best to you all and hope all is well in Blighty. Simon.

Sorry, forgot to add that the tyre wear on the fronts was a right give-away (the outside of the fronts were obviously wearing badly) that the alignment was out. After they'd done the alignment the fronts went on the back and VV. It really does feel so much better now. :D

Great stuff.
That oil leak is the oil cooler o-ring. Common as the car gets older. There's a write up in the wiki I think (started by newkid and then added to by me IIRC?)

That hole in the exhaust definitely needs sorting.

I don't understand what's going on with the oil pressure sensor on your car (underneath the oil cooler). From original it should have a rubber cover over the end, but that's not the end of the world, it's just the connection to it looks a little 'odd'. I take it the oil pressure light on your car works ok?
