MOT Pass / nsf upper ball joint

Post by vanzep » Wed Dec 21, 2016 1:59 pm

The MOT had expired on the 14th so had to take the car for an MOT today at a garage ive not used before.
Car failed on loose upper ball joint in the passenger side wishbone - no problem really as i had noticed a rattling from that side and had a spare wishbone ready to fit. Turns out the aftermarket ball joints i got are too loose a fit so ive had them welded in place :)
So it was a straight pass after the arm had been fitted with no advisories but was a bit of pain as MOT station said they didnt have time to carry out the work so had to take it to another garage and get the replacement wishbone fitted and then go back for retest
Bit of running around but a pass is pass as they say :)

aftermarket ball joint - welded in place.

mot pass but mileage has mysteriously gone down to 114619 - actual mileage is 151,000

25 year old car to pass with no advisories.. It must be in great shape.I remember this car being really clean underneath.have you sealed the underbody with anything for the nice salty winter?

now that the upper arms are fixed there are no rattles when going over speed bumps or rough roads....
what a difference :)

It had been undersealed by the previous owner - it may have been done when it was first imported to the UK
I have treated the inside of the rear arches with dynax S50 cavity wax and touched up some parts on the rear of the car with good quality stone chip. ;)

Yep sad to see the type R lip bite the dust
however sun was shining today and i managed to get hold of a ukdm OEM front lip (cheers Merlin) so got that fitted and also replaced the clear indicators & usdm turns/reflectors with a full set of preface ambers.
this might get a bit of getting used to as the ambers certainly stand out - looks like the front of the lude has been tangoed
just got one quick crap pic and then it was dark :?

I'm actually a big fan of the ambers, have never changed mine. I think they suit the darker cars better. 8-)
Same with the UK lip actually - I have toyed with changing mine a bunch of times but cant quite find anything that fits the bill. The standard jap one is just way tool skinny too IMHO.
You realise our cars look even more alike now. :D
