Re: BB4 Black Friday
the mechanic did say it could possibly be wheel bearing - there was a bit of a grinding noise after driving a few miles sounded a bit like a binding caliper - yet i just stuck it in neutral to check if it was brake related and there was no binding brake.
ive steered him towards driveshaft if you forgive the pun as i have these spare parts here
i do have a set of pristine rear hubs but no front hubs
was a weird feeling with the steering pulling from side to side - definately felt out of control
just hope its driveshaft

Thanks Iain, wurlycorner wrote:If you need a front hub or anything, give me a shout...
Would be passenger side i need - if you could get one ready on standby

One of the first things i checked was for any play in the hub - felt solid with no play at all

That was with the wheels on the deck - up in the air you could see some vibration and the wheel oscillating up and down.
Also you could see a wobble on the driveshaft at outer cv on passenger side and at inner cv on drivers side.

Re: BB4 Black Friday
Turns out it was outer cv joint on the passenger side driveshaft
The lude is back in the road!
Im going to see how it goes and then possibly replace the driver side shaft as well - i thought the inner cv joint did look a bit wobbly and there is still an occasional little bit of chatter at full lock on some surfaces at low speed
@Merlin has chowed through all my spares so i will need to look at maybe buying one or two

Re: BB4 shafts, tie rods and boots
Lots of new parts to be fitted over the next couple of days and then back in to get its alignment at CLCM.
Its all front end stuff to sort out steering and driveshaft issues.
I have already fitted a new passenger side driveshaft but now going the whole hog
All down to wear and tear as the clock went past 180,000 today.
Parts going on are:
Steering Rack inner tie rods(QH part) with new locking washers (Honda OEM)
Steering Rack dust boots (Honda OEM)
Outer tie rods (Honda OEM)
Driveshaft- offside (Honda OEM)
Refurb kit for outer CV joint (Honda OEM)
New Hub Nut & Set Rings (Honda OEM)

Thanks to @JDM-BB4 for getting me the driveshaft and most of the other parts
Cheers fella.
Im looking forward to better handling after all this work

Re: BB4 Alignment & Few Old/New Bits
mostly just a continuation of getting the front end sorted
one snag - when fitting the other driveshaft on the offside we found that the lower ball joint that had been replaced two years ago had nearly disintigrated - it had over 1/4r inch of vertical play in it
this was obviously the cause of the chattering at full lock when turning left and also the front end to going a bit light when cresting any bumps at speed.
Ball Joint that failed (I have two so here is the other - dont think i will be using it..)

Replaced with a better quality Delphi one

one other snag - the QH inner tie rods didnt fit
so the old one were checked and cleaned up - found to be in good order so they were refitted with the new outer tie rods.
then it was back to CLCM to get alignment to the front end.
there is a slight imbalance on the castor which needs to be addressed but car feels good

refitted my oem steering wheel and put in some zebra mats as the grey access ones were finished
not so keen on the zebras so would swap with anyone who has the plain jane grey ones.

lastly a surprise package arrived after xmas - its a set of rear arch repair panels
ive stuck them ontop of the wardrobe so i can hopefully forget they are there...
so back again to that old chestnut - is it worth fitting the arches and getting the bodywork sorted

BB4 as it stands today (winter set up)

Re: BB4 new wheels
Picked up yet another set of wheels
I had been thinking about getting some 15" oem rims when these came up and couldnt resist...
cant believe how light they are
Just need to get some tyres for them - there is a great choice of good tyres in 205/50/15 or 205/55/15 which is a bit of head ache. I can go with a performance summer tyre as the other two sets of wheels i own have Uniroyals and Continentals which do for winter months.
Looking at Vredesteins,Yokohamas,Toyos,Bridgestone,Federal etc.

Unfortunately the lude has a split in the small coolant pipe that goes from the thermostat housing to the fit valve and Honda are saying it could be up to two weeks for delivery
so i wont be going anywhere at the mo
