By a stroke of luck, I found one of the illuminated JDM Prelude logos just listed on ebay. The FedEx man is on his way with it now.

I have seen pictures of them lit up, and it seems they come on with the parking/headlights? Does it get brighter with the brake lights? Does anyone have experience with these?

I'think I may still hook it up to the rear fog switch so I can turn it on and off at will. The law here is clear about vehicle lighting, and it doesn't allow anything other than red rear facing marker and brake lights, with red/amber blinkers. Though I have seen tons of people with blue license plate lights, and even these neon license plate frames in multiple colours (usually blue or pink). I have never seen anyone pulled over and charged for those, but me being an unlucky sorta guy, and the cops around here being dicks I'll probably use the switch to foil the fuzz.

I have one of them. It's illuminated on standart blue/green colour. It comes up with my fuel pump I have it for ages and never had problems with MOT or cops.

It's not so bad. All you have to do is pulling off one connector. On right hand side of front bumper just above fog light you will find small resistor box. Just disconnect it and job done.

It's not so bad. All you have to do is pulling off one connector. On right hand side of front bumper just above fog light you will find small resistor box. Just disconnect it and job done.

Really? That's interesting... Is that with the oem setup? (Lisa's is a JDM and the prelude light and wiring to it etc. is all original fitment).

Why does the resistor box need unplugging? I've seen one of these resistor boxes (have one as spare) but had no idea what it was for. The front bumper on this car isn't original because we changed it for one that came off a ukdm after the original was damaged. I don't recall the original having a resistor box fitted though, either By right hand side, do you mean passenger or drivers side? There's a spare plug in the bumper loom on one side, I did notice tha.

Erm I think I mess up a bit. I don't know why but I was thinking about headlights. It's probably because I just finished my 12hrs shift and I'm still not in bed.

In one of supplements for 4gen you can find electric diagram for it. It"s connected through box in tailight as third brake light. But in my BA8 wiring wasn't complete. I mean part of it which is from rear passenger side quarter to the roof was complete with wires for it but the other part which goes from front to back on passenger side was missing them. Originally my BA8 didn't have "prelude" light. Also in some cases this was made with red perspex and this would explain why it was connected to brake lamp. I didn't find any more info about this and TBH I never seen it coming up with sidelights. More often it wasn't illuminated at all in breakers I've seen.

Anyway finding them wires shouldn't be complicated. Just remove passenger side rear liner and you will see connector on the bottom of window trim. Find (if I'm right) two green/white wires which are on one side of connector but empty slots on the other (main loom), check it with multimeter to make sure it's the one you looking for and connect them to whatever you like. In main loom you can find wires for sidelights and brake lights or like me for fuel pump My "prelude" light is illuminated only when engine is running.

Yeah, I had the entire interior out on that lude (including seats/carpets) for quite some period of time last year and while it was out, I checked that all the original wiring was in place to the prelude light, just to be sure it was original fitment rather than later DIY fit, but when I found the prelude light was missing both bulbs I just assumed that was why it wasn't working and didn't check anything else. Only once it was all back in did I buy some new bulbs, fit them and discover it still didn't work!

I'll get round to investigating it further one day, just not top of the list atm...

The FedEx man finally came today, and left me a fantastically overpriced (for what it is) rare JDM goodie!

It came with the usual JDM part damage. What do they do with these things?

I remedied this by trying a quick wet sand, and then eventually swapping out the housing for the old one I tool off the car.

Post restoration photos: Wetsanded the lens, and cleaned up the housing.



So what makes it so rare? It's the illuminated version!





I don't like the fact that it comes on with the brake light, so I will be hooking this up to a rear foglight switch so I can turn it on and off at will.


I also fitted my newly recovered rear sub cover. I'm impressed at how nicely the fabric matches. Not bad for $2. Forgive the state of the interior. The seats were just placed in there, nothing has been bolted down yet.

Things are getting back on track now. The girlfriend got her car back from the body shop. They didn't fix the dent on the door, which happened during the accident. Turns out the insurance didn't authorize that repair. Tight assed gimps. I told her to ditch that Mickey Mouse insurance company ASAP.

I rejoined the working world this week as an ambulance driver/attendant, so I'll be able to afford the parts I need for both cars once again!


On to car stuff...

I wasn't happy with the look of my new JDM brake light delete, so I set to work on it again. I disassembled the whole thing and started from scratch, while documenting some of the parts for those who have never seen one of these before.

These pieces are ordinary run-of-the-mill high mount brake light parts. In fact, the shell that they sent me was so badly chewed up, I couldn't use it. I ended up disassembling the JDM unit and putting all the good parts into the brake lamp unit that came on the car.





Here is where it gets different:
Note the lens is white instead of red. It is identical in size and shape.



Note the double-sided tape that holds the filter to the lens. I replaced all of this with fresh 3M tape. This stuff stunk (literally, like spices and or body odour), and, it had lost most of its hold. Around the edge of the lens goes a strip of weatherstripping material so block any light getting out around the edges of the filter card.



Sexy.


The switch that I am going to be using to control this light finally arrived. No more empty slots!
