Still, you got there in the end, a lot wouldn't have, so great trouble shooting ;)

Engine bay looks great to... Just need a nice shiny or wrapped exhaust manifold now ;) 8)
Cheers Nafe, it has been a long week but it's coming together
Yep full 2.5 stainless system is on the cards ;)

Things to do next...

Get the right belt for alternator so I can remove AC comp
Fit new/secondhand JDM manual p13 ECU (when it arrives)
Source some OBD1 ECU pins to wire in VTEC
Secure CAI to stop rubbing
Run in the engine
Change all fluids for good stuff

During the removal of the engine I also removed the charcoal filter and lines, the cruise control and all AC lines and associated gubins..

I think I'm mad removing AC on a daily in Australia but I have high hopes to track this car and eventually get another car for daily use.. (Hopefully another Lude) ;)

Wow you've been through the mill there, well done persevering and getting those things sorted so quickly, it's looks really good!

Couple of notes - h23 water pumps have a different size (and number of teeth) pulley, so you really should get that changed for the correct h22 pump.
The top rad hose looks like it's too long, so the two bends are kinking slightly, which will restrict flow - either needs sliding on the outlets further or if that still isnt enough, chop the ends off to get more length (oo-er!).

And yes... I think you are mad removing a/c on a car in oz!!!

The box on the bulkhead that you forgot to plug in, is the resistor box for the injectors.

Wurly you have eagle eyes my friend!!
I have been planning to cut the top hose down since I put it on last weekend but it's been least of my worries .

Ahh I didn't know that about the water pump
But that explains why the belt looks as if it's vibrating since I fitted the water pump :o

That explains it, I did have some spark but was week I thought, oh well must have been fuel..

@wurleycorner you have made me paranoid about this water pump now
I've looked at the differences on line and they are significant, I totally didn't think at the time I was in such a rush and in abit of a tizz due to the new one being wrong I just assumed and threw it on :?
Gunna have to nurse it to work in morning and try get the right one for tomorrow night..
Thank god for you wurley and the other Lude gods on here :hail:

Hah no worries I'm glad you told me, just done the pump tonight...

For those who want to know, the h23 has 19 teath and the h22 has 26 I think and as you can see there's a fair difference

I also managed to do it without removing the rocker cover again thankfully, saved me heaps of time..

Also got the right belt to delete my AC compressor 8-)

Now I need my ECU and wire VTEC and I'll be happy for now...

Re: JEBB4's White BB2 (yang). H22A engine swapped in and run

Post by JEBB4 » Mon Jul 10, 2017 11:25 am

Ok so it's been a while since I updated this but I lost a lot of enthusiasm for this as I shal explain..

Firstly there was the hunting on idle issue when up to temp which I was just going around in circles with trying different second hand parts off the other engine, this seems to have been a mistake now as I've fixed it today by fitting the original IACV off the h22, now I changed this because I suspected it to be faulty when I bought the bb1 and my h23 did not hunt so seemed to be the thing to do.. anyway I did strip and clean the h22 IACV before fitting again so perhaps I fixed it anyhow, idle sorted..... but I still have two more faults with the car... :x

It's still got a strange serge under partial load at between about 2k - 4.8/VTEC, feels like something is drastically altering the fueling as the revs rise under partial throttle, totally fine with wide open throttle, have changed the egr valve, blanked the intake butterflies, tested the throttle position sensor at WOT and closed but thinking I should maybe look at this again opening the throttle slower and seeing if there's any deviation in voltage... also has a known good O2 sensor on it and tested the o2 sensor voltage...

So onto the worste fault of all.... :(
Something has happened during the rebuild or something has been over looked by myself during the process and it's burning copious amounts of oil.... it's smoking really badly and if driven hard will burn 1L of oil in 100km
So I was at a point of just giving up with it and selling it but I've decided to keep on with it and sort it out however that may be....

I have bought myself a little 89 civic hatch auto with only 132k km on the clock and the lude is in the garage ready for some serious interrogation 8-) :x

Anyway I fitted stainless header and down pipe the other week, here's a pic

Also wired VTEC which works beautifully :)

More to come soon!!
