Restoration and FI Project

Post by nonamecc79 » Thu May 08, 2014 12:42 am

Whats up people, I've already made my intro in this thread and its time to get down to business!!
http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/new-mem ... 12338.html

As it stands, I can tell that the car will need a lot of prep work done before I'm able to plug in some boost!!

Work that needs doing:

Cosmetic:
-Rear Arch rust needs clearing and re-spraying
-Front bumper needs a refurb
-Near side door trim needs refurb
-Near side rear panel needs re-spraying
-Engine bay rust needs clearing/bolts need replacing
-Rocker cover needs a re-spray (preferably in red)
-Remove chavy windscreen sticker - Done
-Repair windscreen crack

Interior:
-Centre ash tray needs replacing

Internal/Mechanical:
-Engine sometimes dips while idling from 800rpm to about 300rpm - Done
-Exhaust manifold is rusty
-Pod filter clearly needs changing
-Good o'l fashion service (change all filters, oil, belts etc.) - Done

After all that is sorted, I can begin working on the car. In terms of "going" forced induction; I will definitely be following the turbo route as I don't fancy the supercharger whine. My overall aim is to have a solid 250fwhp whilst maintaining reliability. What I mainly want is a bit more low-down torque which most Vtec's lack.

Current ideas/parts:

Exterior:
-Rear window 40% Tint - ~£200
-LED Number Plate Bulbs - £5
-New Number Plates - £30
-Possibly re-spray Motegi Kit Dark Metallic Red - £32 - ORDERED PAINT

Interior:
-Re-trim Red and Black
-LED Courtesy Lights - £5
-Aluminium Foot Pedals
-Refurb Steering Wheel
-Double Din Pioneer/Alpine based system

Performance:
-Hondata ECU with 98 Map
-Skunk2 Street Cams (Maybe)

Handling:
-D2 Racing Coilovers - £650
-JAP Speed Front Strut-Brace - £40
-Whiteline RSB - £100
-Tarox Front Drilled and Grooved Discs - £300
-Tarox Front Pads - £90

This thread is a work in progress and will be updated when works is done.

Thanks for looking, any suggestions are welcome

Update 21/05/2014: Been advised to stay away from boost for reliability purposes so for now that's been put on hold.

Done:

- Removed Windscreen sticker
- Serviced with fresh Castrol GTX 5w30
- Fixed the rough idling (It was either a loose Vacuum Line or the service that helped)
- Ordered red paint to respray motegi kit
- Ordered new dust caps because some nob nicked mine

Update 28/05/2014:

My car has run into issues and is running very poorly at the moment. It has developed an overheating issue which has affected some of the other components. After doing some research I have found that the following issues:

- No coolant is moving through the system but there is no leak and is seem to be loosing coolant.
- The heater matrix has stopped working and I'm sure its related to the cooling.
- The IAC has developed the random revving idle issue. The sensor is fine though.

The car is booked in at my local garage to be diagnosed thoroughly and I will post the extent of the damage once he gets back to me. I've also asked for them to sort out the rust on the arches and diagnose all the sensors including fuel and oil levels.

Some good news though!! I have re-sprayed my rocker cover red so I can tick that off the list lool. And my Honda locking dust caps have finally arrived but I have chosen to wait to put them on after the engine is running properly.

Nice but long dreamlist buddy

If you looking for 250 whp then you don't need to go turbo route. Easily NA will do 250 and it will be safer.
Stock engine will not take a lot of boost
AEM ECU - why? TBH I don't know this one but new hondata is very good and a lot cheeper. Just look on it

K30DPC I would disagree. IMO to hit 250whp will take a monster of an NA engine that makes approx 300bhp at the fly. I have no experience of boost but I would have thought that a reliable 300bhp is difficult to achieve on stock internals. A member once got 268whp/316bhp but the engine did not last.

I was going to say exactly the same thing, your dreaming if you think its "easy" for NA to reach 250whp K30DPC :?

OK my bad.
But still soft turbo will not leave him with this 300bhp and last for long. That need proper built engine as well. Ask ddanny he have small experience with stock h22 turbo.

I wouldn't spend so much still looking for same much again if it was so easy

Yep, 300bhp on stock internals will not end well...

Hmm maybe u guys are right :/ I was also looking into a stroker kit to take it up to 2.5 but im not sure how it will affect low end torque. A charger is the ideal answer but I hate the whine it makes. I starting to realise the h22a isn't a cost effective investment. As a daily drive its perfect the way it is.

My alternative is the Mitsu GTO but they understeer quite badly. What do you guys reckon??

If you want cheap power upgrades then it certainly isn't cost effective. Turbocharging will still be the cheapest way of adding extra power. Remember the Prelude isn't about absolute power, it is about making the most of what power it has (which is still pretty decent). The Prelude is a great handling car.

What are you planning on using the Prelude for?
