Doug's Red 5th gen

Post by Redoug1976 » Fri May 01, 2015 11:41 am

Hi Joined the group few weeks back after saving the prelude from the scrap heap. It belonged to my brother who had left it parked up for 8 months while he was in Afghanistan. So £300 quid changed hands and I became the owner of a prelude with no Mot and looking slightly sorry for itself

My plan is to restore it as a running project and use it as a weekend car. The 1st job was to get it an Mot, I replaced front rear brake discs and pads and replaced front top suspension arms and new tie rods both sides. I took out both headlamps and fixed the top mounting points that always seem to snap and gave the engine an oil and filter change.

Tuesday was the 1st time I drove it when I took it for Mot apart from the tracking being slightly out I had a massive smile on my face it was good to be back in a prelude 6 years after I sold my last 1.

I had an even bigger smile on my face when I drove it home with full 12 months mot and no advisories :D

The front end could do with a respray but 1st job on list is to get it cleaned up sort out all the annoying bits like window trims put a new motor in the sunroof and get the wheels sorted of which I have a spare set.

Nice car, love the seats but I think you should change the location of the number plate as that might be blocking the air getting to the radiator behind it :?:

For £300 this is insane.
Looks top. What are those seats? Really suit the red car!

Also she looks very tidy, especially engine bay wise. I like 8-)

I wish I had taken a picture of it where it had been parked for 8 months! I'm sure you would of said £300 is to much lol. I'm in Northampton I will have a look see if I can find any pics of my old Prelude I sold that to get Accord type R but regretted selling the prelude I had it for 5 years longest I have ever owed a car!

I put number plate there as I had no tape to put it on bumper for mot, but I ran my old prelude with plate there for years and had no problems with cooling

The seats are same as ATR recaro's but they tilt forward they have been re trimmed with red centres, as to what there originally out of I have no idea.
Apart from an oil change and putting an old battery in I haven't touched engine yet!!

Have done a massive 58 miles in prelude since it's mot last month. The only problem I found was I couldn't change up the gears in vtec time for new clutch :(

So after doing a bit of research on here I ordered a genuine Accord Type R clutch and 2 litres of oil and today set about changing it.
9 hours later I was finished what a pig of a job on your own!!! That gear box is heavy. Problems I had were splitting the bottom ball joints I had to modify my ball joint folk as after about 20mins realised it wasn't wide enough to fit the tapper but even then I had to use a sledge hammer. Then the passenger side inner cv joint decided to separate putting that back together wan a nightmare. From reading the guides no where does it say to remove the front cross member to get the gearbox out. Well I had to as there was no way I could get it through the gap lol
