Project type S , 1998 R-reg, pearl white,

Post by Rudelude » Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:01 pm

Right then,

Got kungfubobs type s delivered to my brothers place.
It's got 1 day of MoT remaining, doesn't start, has a misaligned
Window, no radio, rear lip inside the car ( fell off). Very early signs of rust on rear arches, no rot. Original type s wheels, refurbed in black. And boot lock missing! Tho I have got one sourced via samiyah on here for a princely sum of £30... Thanks Samiyah

Bob the previous owner had it for 10 years, and it has 102,000 miles. The original red on the vtec cover has barely any signs of wear. He changed oil religiously.
So it's a well looked after car, interior is good, no excessive wear. Headlights have no murky ness. And lots of JDM goodness, grill, fogs, suede interior, carbon surrounds :-)
Very original car with no mods.

Gonna need some love.

My mechanic who has always looked after my jap cars, Richard from MotorTec, will be assessing it tomorrow.
And esp as to why it doesn't start.
I have a strong feeling it maybe the leads as bob didn't change them in the 10 years he owned the car!! Albeit
Plugs were done fairly recently.

Could be a cheap fix. Rest of the stuff is cosmetic.

I'm not sure my brother is best pleased with my sticking a
Second Honda on the driveway, ( esp as I'm still in NYC till summer next year) he likes driving my dc5 tho!

I'm in 2 minds as to keep it or sell it.. Not sure my brother will run around doing all the bits that I need doing. I'm gonna try and project manage from across the pond..the Type S is one of my fav cars Ever. Those who have owned one will testify im sure. Hence my crazy commitment to restoring it...

I'm not worried about it, I have the best guy in the land working on it. Diagnostic tomorrow hopefully.

The car developed a startup issue, the garage told bob it's the dizzy cap. Bob changed the cap to an aftermarket one. The car developed a misfire shortly after. And blew the coils
Around the starter? So it's not the dizzy that was the problem. The original is going back on and will need new coils possibly, and the problem seems likely to lie in the leads. Keep you all posted.

Recent publications by Honda Jordan confirm the motegi spoiler adds 5bhp to a type s... Above the type s spoiler, hence all type R cars then on received larger spoilers.. :-)

Ah... Distributor cap was changed on its own - this is new info to the previous question...
Was it just the distributor cap that was changed that started the coil blowing problem? And was that same cap put on the new distributor? If so, check that before the plugs and leads - there are jobby caps out there these days that breakdown (conduct) at ht.

This is what happened in bobs words:
"I was coasting in traffic approaching some red lights and the revs suddenly dropped right down and got bogged.
This happened before (burnt out coil) and then to keep rolling I cranked a little too much and got a burnt starter."

Inititially it was the sissy cap that started the problem. It was from Fleabay.

Thoughts?
