sounds like it could be a vac leak that could possibly cause the over revving

That will be a PCV hose I think.
It's a different system to the 4th gen though, so there will probably be little first hand experience on here. However... Here is some info from the Chilton manual (read carefully - it jumps around between models, so you will need to work out what is relevant to your engine).

Does anyone know what/where are the following on the 2.0 carb engine?

- Idle Controller Dashpot?
- Thottle Controller

OK so I believe the Idle Controller Dashpot is the same as the Thottle Controller / control valve?

Its just that I have been reading some very old posts and these names of parts come up as being what was at fault..

I dont have AC

Check out this video of mine - Turning the screw makes absolute no difference. The arm freely flops about. I am 99% sure my Dashpot is knackered and needs replacing!?

That's a vacuum unit, that operates the rod, to open a butterfly inside the inlet manifold/carb, from what I can see in that video?
Part of the choke system???
And is the screw ok the arm not just an adjustable stop, to limit how far the butterfly opens when the vacuum unit is pulling max on the rod?
I would have a look in Chilton again, but don't have time right now. Might do tomorrow night.

Here is a video of me mumbling. Hopefully it helps to point toward my problem?

So I sprayed lots of carb cleaner and scrubbed the return spring and surrounding parts followed by WD40 - didn't do anything :(

I took the air box off - and sprayed a little carb cleaner in and wiped the carbs out. From what I can tell the choke is working perfectly. The butterflies moved freely. Were fully closed whilst cold and fully open whilst hot. I reached in and up - the floats moved freely.

She is at 1200 revs within a couple of minutes and the throttle is still sticking open after revving. (Varies between 1500-2000 revs) I have to force it back down to where it sits at 1200revs.

There is one difference though - whilst the engine is running the quick flick doesn't work; it doesn't go back to 1200revs (like the video whilst the engine is off) must mean something?

I am starting to consider giving up..

I went on to buy a box of springs to help with the throttle return.

Seemed to fix help so I rebooked the MOT for this morning...

Ah well done, glad you got it sorted - I hadnn't had an opportunity to look in Chilton again, yet.
