Welcome to the forum. Auto gearboxes aren't the most reliable aspect of a lude, but can last if looked after.
If youre not thinking of converting it to manual any time soon it might be worth changing the transmission fluid.

Thanks everyone. I have read that the auto gearboxs can be temperamental. Will have a look at this shortly

Welcome, I'm fairly new to the site but I can guarantee you'll get every bit of advise of these lot! They could tell you how to do everything bolt by bolt just by typing it! I would get rid of the auto first thing if your budget can make it happen.

the auto to manual conversion is a pain. the autos do not have the same bulkhead strength as the manual, so you would need to weld in a plate to fit the clutch pedal. i may be wrong, but that is what i was lead to believe.

See what I mean! You'd pay a lot of money just for that advise! Plus it's saved you a lot of time!

But if you do want to do the manual conversion... There's no problem getting advice on here from those that have done it and... You could get all the bits you need from rob quilter if you're quick?
