Right then did the paper clip test tonight and got code 12 from the eml which I believe is the EGR valve?

Also the ABS light was blinking which was. 4 then 2 blinks which were all quick blinks.

One more thing when you turn key to position 1 and you the aerial operates. The fan comes on? If the key is removed and car locked it remains on for 15 (very cold) minuets? Which has me baffled

If it's the EGR valve, check the plug/connections to it first if that's all ok, take it off and clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner - it's bound to be heavily coked up.

42 on the ABS is front left abs sensor, so unplug it (orange plug in the engine bay near the suspension turret) and continuity and resistance check it with a multimeter.

When you say fan, do you mean the rad fan?
Which one? Left or right hand fan? (as you stand in front of the car). One of them is for the a/c and the other is for coolant temp.
If it's the rad thermo fan Fan sounds like either the relay is sticking, fan temp sensor is sticking.
If yours is a UKDM car, there's an extra box of tricks mounted next to the ECU that has something to do with cooling or a/c fan control (I forget which now). JDM's don't have this extra thing.

Ok mate will check the connector first then give it a good clean out.

Great news it's just a sensor :) nice easy fix, not a pump so that's good news.

As you stand over the fans it's the one on the right.
When driving the car does not get too hot so it works as it should. Just can't figure out why it stays on for 15 mins from just putting the key in.
Yes it's a ukdm car mate. The air con has been removed for weight in the past, although the pump and pully is still there there's just no pipes coming from it lol
