I don't know how successful this will be, because its an old phone and the quailty isn't great, but here goes...

If this isn't very good i'll get my mini cam out over tomorrow and have another go.

Yeah that fast flashing is just swapping from main ecu to sub ecu. It's giving you fault code 2.

Thank you for that Iain, sorry you'll have to bear with me here, i'm a little confused, because the 4WS codes start with 10 so does this mean, its a 20 then, when it flashes 2 slow.

which would indicate its this - 20 Main Steering Angle Sensor Front 8,15 CU, FSSAS, FMSAS, HC

Which could be the fact the steering wheel is off centre slightly, please correct me if i'm off track, Cheers

Yes, it'll be 20. Sorry, I was thinking that but I'm in a field so couldn't refer to the manual when I posted the reply above (and was a bit pissed and sleep deprived) :D

No worries,

I've just got back from having the 4ws alignment done + camber which was all miles off, and the fronts were facing one way and the rears the other :? car feels better in a straight line apart from a little twitchyness from the front on bad surfaces and on the brakes, so most probably 18 year old lower arm bushes by the feel of it ? will need doing

But... stopped on my way home and when i started the car i only just moved the steering an inch and the 4WS light was back on, so it wasn't the tracking causing it to light then :x

So now i'm about to go out and strip the interior to find the 4WS ECU and have a look inside at the soldering and if that doesn't or isn't the problem then i'm dumping the 4WS system at some point i think.

Oh well the trials and tribulations of owning an old car, if this Lude wasn't quite so much fun or so rare a sight on the roads these day, one might get a little fed up with it

OK, before you ditch it!:

Check the steering angle sensor on the column, behind the wheel, as in make sure it's not covered in dust / crap etc, you'd be surprised.
Check all the rear bulbs/brake lights (unlikely from your symptoms, but worth a look)
Check all your gaitors to make sure they haven't split and thrown grease everywhere - this, and corroded wires on wheel sensors can sometimes be the cause of the 'bad' sensor code. If it's gone over an ABS ring, that can trip it too, when all it needs is a wipe!

The 4WS ECU is easy to get to - it's on the back of the rear seats, passenger side. Accessible from the boot after taking the trim out.
I'm sure' there's a how-to on here, it's really not that bad a job.

Honestly, more often than not it's much cheaper and easier to fix the 'issue' with 4WS (replace a sensor etc) than it is to bin it

Thank you everyone who chipped in with advice on the 4WS light, because i'm feeling pretty happy right now :D

I took the 4WS ECU out and with a how too obtained on the relay soldering issue on these, took it apart and re-soldered the 10 connections on both the 2 small black relays on the PCB and...... result
