The rear brakes won't bleed, therefore no braking effect = fail!!

Hmmm. Hopefully get it sorted soon.

Hopefully also the weather'll stay decent if/while you're using the FJ.

Welcome to the OP.

For £2.5k you should be able to pick up a very decent condition 5th gen :D

Prelude91... Rear brakes won't bleed? What's that mean? Bleed nipples corroded shut or something else?
Why do they need to be bled?

Doggo, yes, the fj will have to serve, but apparently we are in for a nice week, phew. I asked the garage to bleed the brakes, as myself and thebus replaced the abs pump recently. The garage are saying the brakes won't bleed as the abs solenoid is not working. This seemed counter-intuitive to me, as there had been no previous issue with bleeding the brakes, even during the 8 years or so that the abs pump was u/s!!! Chris, (thebus) has confirmed that the abs system and normal brake bleeding are totally separate circuits, so the solenoid fault on the abs should have no bearing on the ability to bleed. Hope that makes sense. I need now to talk to the garage tomorrow and convince them that if a fault exists which does not allow the brakes to bleed, then the fault lies elsewhere.

Hmmm. Yes, that does make sense. Have to wonder about the garage (As doubtless you are).

Indeed, ironically, they have been one of the garages in the past who have bled the rear brakes with the abs pump u/s, hopefully, with a bit of diplomatic dialogue in the morning, they'll agree to try again. How's the CBR, have done 6k since july on the fj, 2 trips to france, once for 10 days, then again for 5 weeks, unheard of mileage for me since I was a teenager, need to think about my future job prospects now, had a brill 2014, compared to 12/13, so time to knuckle down a bit after my recovery period.

Yep, the ALB hydraulic circuit is completely independent of the main brake system hydraulic circuit on a 3rd gen.

Glad it's been a good year :D

Thanks for asking. I'm afraid the CBR has been sat waiting for repair for many months now
The good news is I got a tax rebate this week and have already spoken to a garage about getting her back on the road :D I'll be taking the riding pretty steady to start with but I really cannot wait :sega:

Good for you doggo, regards my rear brakes, regrettably all who have said that the brake bleeding and abs systems are separate are wrong. The brake master cylinder exits its body and then feeds into the abs modulator. The rear brake solenoid, found in the modulator itself, is not energising, its probably picked up a bit of debris from the bottom of the reservoir. Fortunately, I have a spare modulator which I acquired some years ago. The garage have agreed to disassemble the spare unit and hopefully will swap the sticky solenoid and hey presto!! My favourite youtube vids are generally CBX sixes, something to do with the sound of the exhausts, I think, no psycho analysis necessary!! Love to see some images of the CBR. Met a bloke on the chunnell recently and he had a brand new VFR1200, but that's another story.

What's been wrong with the CBR?
