I only know of one genuine 4WS fault and thats a dry solder joint basically. I had my car for 10+ years before it ever showed up and it was sorted that night, it's really not a big issue.
Like anything, maintenance is key. The other 'faults' that people like to harp on about are usually not the 4WS at all, but a wheel sensor or similar. Which, IMHO, is a bit like ripping out your brakes, because a bulb went. :lol:

You can't remap standard Honda ECU's unfortunately - the chip is the remap. And only costs £15 off the forum, plus someone good at soldering.
To remap you have to buy a re mappable ECU, of which there are several options out there... Neptune, Chrome, Hondata, AEM (going up in price in that order IIRC?)

Not really, the system is pretty reliable, and when it does have an issue, fixing is typically straight forward. Mine is 23 years old an the 4WS works perfectly. ;)
Fair enough mate :) well like i said i have a few months before i buy one so going to see whats about once i have the money saved for a decent one and money to throw at it.
