Mine's an 86 EX manual, with 44k on the clock :) was bought by a woman from new, then she emigrated to Aus and kept it here to drive when she was back, then went to some lad, who sold it to his mate, who I then bought it from! Still has the plastic sticker protecting the 'coin' tray lettering and everything. Going to feel bad modifying it in a way...

Makes me realise how poo my 1993 Polo is... No power steering [speed variable or not!], no electric windows, no electric sunroof, no headlight washers or aircon, no ALB, I was lucky to get the injection engine tbh! And none of those things listed were even options on it. Honda were so ahead of the rest.

Although, I hate the ALB. It feels like a kid learning to drive...
I remember your car on eBay a few months back, it had a set of 17" rims at the time if I remember correctly. Seems like you've got yourself a real low mileage baby there. It's always a worry making mods on cars like that but I reckon you're safe with subtle and possibly reversible ones.

Mine is going to be very mildly tweaked and that's it ... nothing drastic.

I had a breadvan Polo a few years ago. A 1988 Mk2 1.3 5-speed. Scruffy as hell, bought for £100 from eBay. I ran it for two years, got nearly 50mpg and only spent £47 maintaining it then sold it on for £250. No luxuries at all but it really did the job for me. :)

I sold it to buy my first Honda ... there was no turning back after that.

That's the one! Bought it without the wheels and with original wheels and trims - including the ORIGINAL tyres from new [obviously nor usable but got it home haha]

I hate you for getting 50mpg, I get like 25 out of mine on a good day! They are super cheap to maintain / service though! My head gasket went - cost me £20 hahaha!

Those 17" rims were awful ... totally wrong for a 'Deck. So glad you didn't buy them. Have you decided on wheels for your car?

Blimey, original tyres? That must've been a cautious drive home. :)

I loved my old Polo. It was a scruffy old Hector but a real recession-beater.

Polo Mk2F. Love it! Glad you're going to keep it alongside the 'Deck.

Haha I could NEVER get rid of my olop! It's been too good to me, pretty much everything that has EVER gone wrong with it has been down to me, things like the exhaust splitting [due to being low!], gearbox dying [I don't let off to change gear, if you've ever driven a 1ltr you'll understand plus it gets knocked on cambered roads], and everything that has gone wrong has been cheap and easy to fix!

They can take a fair amount of punishment those old Polos can't they? A modern would fall apart if it got subjected to what Minty went through. And like you said, anything breaks or falls off you just replace it or fix it for next to nothing.
