Help me to get back in a 5th gen

Post by Churley » Mon May 12, 2014 9:50 pm

My father had a 5th generation lude (I was only a lad back then with no interest in cars so can't remember the spec). I loved that car so much, it was just so much fun and I miss those times when cars looked different.

I've been in need a of car for a few months having left London and always fancied one so have made up my mind to do it! I'm looking for a 5th generation post 2000, preferably manual. I hardly do any miles so not worried about mileage on the car, just want one that is well looked after and not ridiculously modified on the exterior at least. Don't really mind if its 4ws, 2ws or what the engine size is.

I'm not looking for a project so don't mind paying a bit more for one that has been cared for by an enthusiast (all the better to save one being broken for parts) but sadly it seems like every car advertised is either a neglected rusty heap from pre 1995 or covered in bodykits with a stainless steel chimney pot sticking out the back.

I saw one a few months back when I wasn't properly looking but nothing since. Am I dreaming or is such a car even possible? Starting to give up hope.

Welcome to the forum. Don't give up hope on finding the right lude. Just have to be a little patient as there aren't that many post 2000 ludes about, so they aren't up for sale every week.

Hi and welcome to LG.

Have a read through this link Info. It will give you a general idea about 5G preludes and different options available, that way you can make up your mind about what spec'd Prelude you want. 8-)

If you see a Prelude for sale on Pistonhead, gumtree, eBay etc then post up a link on here and we can check it out for you.

Hi and welcome mate
If you were willing to go back as far as 97 you would give yourself a few more options, not all the older ones will have rust and not all of the post 00 will be rust free, it can also be quite rewarding to buy a lude with a few problems and fix it up and change the car a small bit to suit ur own taste

Thanks for the welcome seems like a really welcoming forum. Perhaps I'm being a bit restrictive in terms of age, any 5th gen would do really and considering I'm flexible on the rest it might make it easier. Sadly as I live on the third floor with no outside space to call my own fixing one up is not on the cards. I shall keep looking and reading the great advice on here.

Too be honest mint examples are hard to find, but they are about, depending on your budget u may want to consider a fresh import... The best ones will be mostly owned by enthusiasts..on here.... I bought mine last month with only 38,000miles, leather, full honda history, and not a spot of rust or wear and tear.... But I'll be honest, I had been looking on and off for nearly a year... That said don't let high mileage put you off, it's the way they have been cared for that's prob more important... Good luck with the search...

Welcome.

Yes, if you see any that interest you, don't hesitate to post up on here and we'll let you know if it's any good. Might even find a local member to go and give it a once over with/for you. What's your location? Have you got a budget in mind?

Thanks for the offers of help thats very kind I'll take you up on it when I find one. To answer your question about budget and location, I realistically have about £2500 to spend and I'm based in Devon but willing to travel as far as Birmingham or West London for a car that is worth it.
