Hi

New member here. Used to own a Starlight EK4 a few years ago. Have not had a car for a few years but will hopefully be looking for a 4th or 5th gen prelude, though a 5th gen seems more likely based on whats out there. Thanks.

I might consider this ? It has a few issues but because I am on my second year in mechanics I have access to my college workshop for TLC. Are there any key points to look out for on the prelude ? I'm not after a show car but something mechanically sound and obviously the less rust the better. I want to be spending around £800. It's really hard to find decent cars down in the south-east typically just 2.0 examples for sale.

Welcome to LG.

Nice choice on the 5G ;)

That particular one looks like a good base with it's H22A8 (200bhp) motor.

I wouldn't touch it tbh, owner doesn't seem to know/care enough.

Bought as a runaround
Thinks engine size is 2
Mongoose
T reg is gonna be a 99 not a 98
"MOT till Dec 2012"

Basic things really.

"Please remember this is an 16 year old car and will be sold as seen." means it's likely there's something else that they haven't figured out, and they don't want it coming back to bite them.

Poor effort in selling a car says to me poor effort maintaining it.

Yeah I do agree Donald it's a questionable one. I have asked him a couple of questions to see what their response is like to get a judge of character. Things like the mongoose exhaust and the fact it's blowing do put me off. Sold as seen is an annoying one too because anyone who is selling a car and has some faith in it would not put something like that. I noticed heated seats and the red-top motor for the T reg so I've asked for them to check the engine code on the block. I'm in no particular rush though so I might see what pops up on here in the next month or so. I used to use piston-heads a lot but it seems very quiet on there now.

A shot of my old civvy.

Welcome.
Where abouts in the South East are you?
If you want someone that knows ludes to look at that one in Colchester with you, I'd be happy to help.
TBH though, the rust on that one is about as bad as I've seen on a 5th gen? :?

If you've got access to a workshop and are in this area, I'd pick this one up cheap and do a manual conversion on it;

I even could supply everything you need for a manual conversion I think, off my 4th gen breaker? (Simon used a 4th gen to convert his 5th gen auto).

I'm right on the coast in Folkestone. Trouble with that listing in Colchester is the seller has only done a shot of trailing arch, and seeing that there is rust in that area I would expect some down at the sills as well. I saw that SIR on eBay a couple of weeks ago and it's my favorite model (black/red interior). Though I have access to a college workshop I am only allowed to do quick fixes due to the amount of students doing work in there, so any car that does not belong to the college has to be in and out on the hour ! Pretty ideal that you are in Chelmsford, don't worry about looking at it for me as the auction still has a while to go and I'm waiting for the seller to get back to me. If I take any consideration to it though you will be the first to know. With what Donald said though I'll leave it for now and see what happens bid-wise.
