new to a 5th generation

Post by gary st1100 » Sat Jan 24, 2015 9:58 pm

Hi from north east england. I have a 5th generation prelude and need some advice,
the srs light is staying on and the cel engine management light is coming on, I have
discovered by linking out the blue connector the cel light flashes 8 times, what does this
mean. TIA Gary
I will do a search on here for the problem

Three minutes later I find the fault code is to with the TDC sensor and I believe this is in the distributor, is it a service item
in there?

Hi gary, welcome in, and good luck with the problem. Do you have a pan European by any chance?

Hi and welcome
Not so familiar with 5ths but hope you sort the faults soon.
Doesn't seem to be too much of a problem though

Just replace the dizzy. On 5th Gens the TDC sensor is in the dizzy. I can be replaced though but it means taking it apart completely.

Thanks for the welcome and information. Where is the ECU located to check the connections? Is there a multi meter check I can do on the distributor prior to removal? Is it true the rover 6/20 has the same engine/ distributor. Are there external SRS connections/sensors that need checking for corrosion?
